Started USC's last four regular-season games and its bowl game in 1998, completing 130-of-235 passes for 1,755 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions. Completed 39-53-490-3-0 in '99 but broke his right collarbone in Game Three and redshirted. Came back to start every game in 2000 and '01. Completed 228-415-2,914-16-18 in 2000 and 206-351-2,567-13-12 in '01. Completed 288-458-3,639-32-10 in '02 and won the Heisman Trophy. Completed 21-of-31-303-1-0 in USC's Orange Bowl victory over Iowa. Positives: Great mechanics, good feet, size, arm and accuracy. Plays hurt. Has big, 10-inch hands. Started 32 games in four years, has lots of stats at a major school and played in some big games. Good athletic ability and touch. Made rare improvement and was highly productive. Played within offense. Has timing, touch and accuracy. Can sidestep the first move and drop the deep ball. Accurate on deep and seam routes. Is good on swing routes and plays within himself. Is better on the move and made large strides when he had the same coordinator two years in a row (Norm Chow). Has stretches when he seems to have pinpoint accuracy and the ability to pick up his secondary receiver. Negatives: Lacks a quick arm like Elway or Mike Vick and has some windup and three-quarters arm delivery. Forces ball, making dumb mistakes at times. Doesn't have much personality or fire and is a marginal leader, who seems to lack the persona to attract teammates as followers. Average scrambler. Has short accuracy and is inconsistent on short-to-medium and long passes. Erratic, hot-and-cold player who lacks velocity on deep out. Does not have great instincts and intelligence or IQ. Streaky and loses poise and confidence. Can improve technique and accuracy. Slow reactor. Lacks field vision. Better in rhythm system. Ran a limited offense and loses accuracy when pressured, but he will throw away and take a sack. Good but not great arm. Has questionable mental toughness and is questionable at handling pressure. Tends to bird-dog his primary receiver. Summary: Palmer finally put everything together as a senior and should be the first quarterback, if not the top player, selected in the draft. Charles Rogers SELECTED BY DETROIT , ROUND 1, PICK 2, OVERALL PICK 2 WR | (6-2, 202, 4.4) | MICHIGAN STATE Notes: Decided to leave Michigan State after his junior season. High school All-American and state sprint champion. Prop 48 in 2000. Started every game in '01, catching 57 passes for 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns and returning 18 punts for 158 yards and a touchdown. Capped year with a supersensational bowl performance vs. Fresno State, catching 10 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns. In '02, caught 68-1,351-13 (19.9-yard average per catch). Rogers is a third-year junior who has only played two seasons. Biletnikoff Award winner. Almost single-handedly defeated then-unbeaten Notre Dame with 7-175-2. Positives: He has a rare combination of size, speed, receiving skills and athletic ability with a great future. Is a vertical receiver who will not be caught from behind. His hands are outstanding and athletic ability is exceptional. Great leaper. His speed is deceptive, much like that of Marvin Harrison, and Rogers is never really covered. Had a streak of 13 consecutive games with a touchdown. Can pluck and snatch and make the one-handed catch. Makes difficult catches look easy. Extends and goes up for the ball. Outmuscles defenders. Sells his routes. Aggressive. Willing blocker. Gets separation and shows make-you-miss. Has beaten the nation's best corners and really shows up in big games. Negatives: Has a superstar's attitude. Is loud, cocky and immature but very competitive. Needs work on underneath routes; tries to break everything off deep. Isn't afraid to work but relies on ability. Doesn't beat the jam consistently and needs to learn to beat double-team. Loses concentration at times, making drops running before the catch. Summary: Top-five pick who has the ability and athleticism to dominate at the next level. Shows the playmaking ability of Andre Rison and better speed and consistency than Plaxico Burress. Not as fast as Randy Moss, but is more reliable and a better person. Andre Johnson SELECTED BY HOUSTON , ROUND 1, PICK 3, OVERALL PICK 3 WR | (6-2, 230, 4.3) | MIAMI (FLA.) Notes: Fourth-year junior who really came on at the end of the 2001 season and was named co-MVP in the Rose Bowl. Big East 60-meter indoor and 100-meter outdoor sprint champion in '02. Played in every game as a redshirt freshman in 2000 behind two future first-round picks (Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne) and caught three passes for 57 yards and one TD and returned 12 kickoffs for 249 yards and zero scores. Moved into the starting lineup in '01 and grabbed 37-682-10 and returned 13 kickoffs for 254 yards during the regular season, in addition to catching 7-199-2 vs. Nebraska in the Rose Bowl. Did not participate in '02 spring drills. Won the Big East indoor 60 and 100 meters in '02. Played in all but one game in '02 and caught 48-1,038-9 (21.6 yards per catch). Positives: Elite athlete with a rare combination of size, speed and jumping ability (41М-inch vertical at pro day). Can make the great catch and run. Is a playmaker because he can beat you in so many ways, including overpowering or outjumping defensive backs. Can be overpowering as a blocker and hunts for someone to hit. Is explosive after the catch because his first move is upfield. Is elusive, has make-you-miss ability, vision, body lean and patience. Gets off the ball well and consistently beats the jam. Eats up most defensive backs who try to press him. Built like a tight end, runs like a halfback. Negatives: Is inconsistent with his concentration and drops too many balls. Relies too much on his God-given talent. Needs route refinement and better attention to detail in his film and classroom studies. Is not consistently physical. Could be a better downfield blocker. Summary: Could have benefited from another year at Miami, but frankly didn't need it. He is one of the top two WR prospects in the draft. Byron Leftwich SELECTED BY JACKSONVILLE , ROUND 1, PICK 7, OVERALL PICK 7 QB | (6-5, 241, 4.9) | MARSHALL Notes: Backed up Chad Pennington as a true freshman in 1998, when he completed 7-of-13 attempts for 85 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions. Completed 7-11-60-0-0 in three games in '99 and redshirted after hurting his ankle. Replaced Pennington in 2000 and completed 279-457-3,358-21-9. Improved to 315-470-4,132-38-7 in '01, despite playing part of the year with a stress fracture in his leg, which was surgically repaired in February of '02. All-Mid-American Conference and MAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2000 and '01. Suffered a left shin injury Nov. 2 vs. Akron, but played through the pain. Played in all 12 games in '02, making 11 starts. Completed 331-491-4,268-30-10. Declined an invitation to the Senior Bowl in January. Positives: Top leader and competitor, whose teammates and coaches love to be around him. Has rare size and exceptional arm strength that lets you draw your plays on longer paper. Shows good poise under pressure, and like Daunte Culpepper, he can be very hard to tackle and can throw with rushers clinging to him. Leftwich, however, is not the runner Culpepper is. Leftwich can throw every pass, and at times he will show thread-the-needle accuracy. Has a high release point and throws a very catchable ball. Improved ability to look off and locate secondary receivers in '02. Also showed better judgment at times. Is also very well-liked in the community. Does a lot of charity work. Longs to watch film and make himself better. Negatives: Tends to run hot and cold and has too much confidence in his arm strength and accuracy at times. Loses accuracy when on the move and needs to improve footwork outside the pocket. Looks more comfortable in the shotgun. Does bird-dog receivers now and then. Also is not as accurate as teams would like on the short, dump-off passes to backs. Mechanics need work. Will hold the ball too low and sometimes use a little windup, baseball pitcher's delivery, which is not needed for a player with his gun. Can get too heavy. Will try to do too much. Chronic shin problems will be checked out thoroughly. Didn't exactly play against the best competition, and when he did, like vs. Virginia Tech last September, the results were mixed at best. Summary: Might only fit in an open offense, but he will be a top draft pick and could become a star if he improves his quickness and niftiness, and cuts down on his forced passes. With his great film habits, under the right counsel he could become a great asset. Bryant Johnson SELECTED BY ARIZONA , ROUND 1, PICK 17, OVERALL PICK 17 WR | (6-2, 214, 4.55) | PENN STATE Notes: High school sprinter and basketball player who ran an unofficial 10.65 in the 100 meters and competed in the Penn Relays. Caught seven passes for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns as an 18-year-old freshman in 1999. Worked at both wide receiver and defensive back in 2000, when he caught just 4-85-1. Became the Nittany Lions' go-to receiver in '01, catching 51-866-3, including 6-149-1 vs. Miami (Fla.). Started 13-of-13 games in '02, catching 48-917-4 and averaging 70.5 yards per game. Returned 41 punts for 528 yards and scored once. Positives: Great hands and concentration. Will extend and catch with his hands. Nice size and body control. Good character. Aware and tough over the middle and in a crowd. Makes some adjustments to gain separation. Great body and hands and good feet. Excellent athletic ability. Can beat defenders deep with a double move. Big, physical receiver whose route-running, consistency and concentration have improved. Can make you miss. Negatives: Not that quick or explosive or sudden. Has build-up type of speed. Tends to round and gather on cuts. Inconsistent adjusting to the ball. Questionable speed and explosiveness into and out of breaks. Uses body to shield defenders. A little stiff in the hips. Doesn't have superquickness in and out of his cuts. Will have to beat defenders with a double move more than with great vertical speed. Doesn't have great second gear. Lacks burst and playmaking ability. Summary: Could move up to the top of the second round with a good workout. Kyle Boller SELECTED BY BALTIMORE , ROUND 1, PICK 19, OVERALL PICK 19 QB | (6-3, 234, 4.59) | CALIFORNIA Notes: Father was a nationally ranked high jumper. Went from being an unknown backup to the top high school QB prospect on the West Coast, as he completed 290-of-454 passes for 4,838 yards with 59 touchdowns and three interceptions in his senior year in high school. Started eight games as a true freshman at California before suffering a separated shoulder vs. Oregon. Started every game in 2000 and eight games in '01, when he missed two games with a back injury. Had poor stats on a poor team for his first three years, never completing 50 percent of his passes. Was just 100-259-1,303-9-15 (38.6 percent) in 1999; 163-349-2,121-15-13 (46.7 percent) in 2000; and 133-271-1,741-12-10 (49.1 percent) in '01. Played for different offensive coordinators at Cal, but in '02 got to play for a new head coach, Jeff Tedford, who worked wonders with the quarterbacks he coached at Oregon and worked more wonders with Boller. Tedford turned Boller into one of the best quarterbacks in the country by completely overhauling his mechanics -- making them much more compact -- and by rebuilding Boller's confidence and putting him in a truly QB-friendly offense that generally required him to read only half the field. The result was Boller completed 225-421-2,815-28-10 (53.4 percent) and Cal had a winning season. Made general managers take notice at the Senior Bowl, when he displayed improved accuracy and fine footwork. A 40 time in the 4.6-range at the Combine solidified his status as a first-round pick. Positives: Good size, speed and outstanding athletic ability for the position. Has a quick setup, a very strong arm and large hands. Can drill the outs and air the ball out. Took to the new offense very well and went from being a thrower with poor mechanics to a pitcher with solid mechanics. Is a good leader and a tough guy. Took a terrible beating his first three years and never quit. Very accurate from hash to sideline. Works hard and shows he will pay the price. Athletic but doesn't force issue with athleticism. Also has a 35Н-inch vertical leap, and ran a 3.99 shuttle and 7.19 three-cone. Negatives: Lacks great accuracy throwing down the field. May never be a high-percentage passer. Was asked to read only half the field in the offense. Played in a very QB-friendly offense that at times masked some of his shortcomings. Summary: May have improved as much as any quarterback in the country and went from a free agent to a first-round pick in the past year. As long as he shows adequate accuracy at his pro day, Boller will be one of the first quarterbacks taken. Rex Grossman SELECTED BY CHICAGO , ROUND 1, PICK 22, OVERALL PICK 22 QB | (6-1, 217, 4.92) | FLORIDA Notes: Comes from an affluent family. Has a reputation for not making the greatest decisions off the field. Enrolled in January 1999 to participate in spring drills but used his redshirt year in the fall. Started eight games in 2000 and completed 131-of-212 passes for 1,866 yards with 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Finished second in the Heisman Trophy balloting as a sophomore in '01, when he was named Associated Press Player of the Year and first-team All-Southeastern Conference. Started all 11 games and completed 259-395-3,896-34-12. In '02, completed 287-502-3,402-22-17. Positives: Has a quick release and an over-the-top delivery. Has handled pressure situations well in the past. Has a good -- not great -- arm and throws an extremely catchable ball, especially deep. His mechanics -- especially setup and compact release -- are assets. Seems to be aware in the pocket and buys time with his feet. Has football intelligence and the toughness of a pit bull. Also has good mental toughness. Likes to lift with the linemen. Teammates love his self-confidence and bring-it-on attitude. Can get the ball into tight spots because of his intermediate arm strength. Has a burning desire to win. Negatives: Can be lazy and rubs people the wrong way at times because of his confidence. Likes to party. Got by on natural talent at Florida. When things didn't go well in '02, Grossman was out of sync a lot and made too many off-balance throws. Can escape pressure but is not a threat to tuck and run. Has average overall mechanics. Accuracy down the field is limited, as it is when he throws on the move. Will need to be schooled on what the "football classroom" means. Struggles in new offense weren't entirely related to fresh scheme and changes in his surroundings, but teams will critique his ineffectiveness without Steve Spurrier and the wealth of talent that left for the NFL in 2002. Didn't display great accuracy at his Scouting Combine workout. Summary: Another year at Florida probably would not have hurt Grossman, but he figures to be drafted on the first day. Willis Mcgahee SELECTED BY BUFFALO , ROUND 1, PICK 23, OVERALL PICK 23 RB | (6-0, 223, 4.45) | MIAMI (FLA.) Notes: (Forty time is from spring 2002.) A third-year sophomore who decided to enter the NFL draft despite tearing multiple ligaments in his left knee Jan. 3, 2003, in the Fiesta Bowl. Redshirted in 2000 and played in eight games in '01 as the team's No. 3 running back behind Clinton Portis and Frank Gore. Some scouts think he declared because he was not the best running back at Miami and knew he wouldn't win the starting job back. Rushed 67 times for 314 yards and three touchdowns and caught one pass for seven yards. In '02, was an All-American and Heisman Trophy finalist after rushing 262-1,686-27 and catching 24-350. Also a finalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award and Doak Walker Award. Positives: Had No. 1-overall talent before injuring knee. His combination of size, speed and strength was rare. Tackling McGahee was like running with the bulls. He could outrun you or run you over. His vision, balance, patience and ability to cut and change directions was pro grade. Ran like a cross between Terrell Davis and Walter Payton. Is a diligent worker who is motivated when he believes he has something to prove. Works hard in the weight room and was ahead of schedule in his rehab according to doctors. Negatives: Is unlikely to play in 2003, although he says he will, and may never regain the elite speed and cutback ability that made him such a weapon. Lacked mental toughness and was not mature as a college player but could grow up quickly under the circumstances. Doesn't show any polish as a receiver and his pass-blocking was marginal. May stop driving once he hits the pile after such a serious injury to his lower body, which could also hinder his cutback ability. Summary: McGahee had rare RB skills prior to blowing out his left knee, and he is working hard and might contribute this season. His place on draft boards will be very subjective. Expect a team who can be patient, and with a deep backfield, to take a chance on him on the first day. Dallas Clark SELECTED BY INDIANAPOLIS , ROUND 1, PICK 24, OVERALL PICK 24 TE | (6-3, 257, 4.55) | IOWA Notes: Played quarterback and linebacker in high school, when he earned all-state honors. Walked on Iowa football team in 1998 and redshirted as a linebacker. In '99, was an outside linebacker and return specialist playing at 200 pounds. Recorded six tackles and two tackles for loss before having an emergency appendectomy and missing the second half of the season. Played linebacker but mainly special teams in 2000. In '01, moved to tight end and started 10-of-12 games, playing little in two non-starts (Wisconsin, Northwestern) due to injury. Caught 34 passes for 509 yards and four touchdowns. Started all 13 games in '02, when he caught 43-742-4 (including a 95-yard TD catch vs. Purdue), and won the John Mackey Award, given to the nation's top tight end. Was also named first-team All-Big Ten and AFCA All-American. Decided to enter the NFL draft after his junior season. Positives: A top competitor with high character. Has very good speed for a tight end and uses high athleticism to his advantage. Has good hands and can make the tough catch. Marv Cook-type. Will position himself between ball and defender and wall off the safety or linebacker consistently. Body control makes him look like a wide receiver at times. Has huge upside and star potential. Negatives: Relatively new to the position, having moved to tight end in 2001. Doesn't have a great base as a blocker and lacks natural size. Is a liability as a blocker at times, but admits the weakness and is dedicated to improve in that area. Summary: Should be one of the first tight ends drafted and will improve as he gains experience. Clark isn't as brash or athletic, but he has some of Jeremy Shockey's characteristics as a player, and could be to a team what Jay Novacek was to the Cowboys. Larry Johnson SELECTED BY KANSAS CITY , ROUND 1, PICK 27, OVERALL PICK 27 RB | (6-1, 228, 4.6) | PENN STATE Notes: Father, Larry Sr., is Penn State's DL coach, and his younger brother, Tony, is a wide receiver on the team. Redshirted in 1998. Carried 43 times for 171 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 74 yards and a score in '99. Also returned 13 kickoffs for 230 yards. Carried 75-358-3 in 2000 while also catching 9-22-1 and returning 18 kickoffs for 444 yards. Rushed 71-337-2, caught 11-136-2 and returned 17 kickoffs for 454 yards and one touchdown in '01. Was part of a RB-by-committee approach his first three years but emerged as the chairman of the board in '02. Started 12 of 13 games in '02, carrying 271-2,087-20 and catching 41-349-3. Returned 11 kickoffs for 219 yards. Positives: Good size, speed and production. Patient and uses blockers well. Has some elusiveness. Can break high tackles and make catches while facing the quarterback. Good quickness (both lateral and rear) and good in-line. Good vision, anticipation and use of blockers. Can pick and slide, get wide and redirect. Tough, finishes runs and has great moves. Johnson can see the cutback lanes and cut upfield. Good agility and balance to make first man miss. Very good hands. High character. Top special-teams player who had three blocked punts in his first three years. Versatile halfback who catches the ball well and returns kickoffs. Made great improvement and came on in '02 as a featured back. Negatives: Gets narrow and a little upright. Struggles breaking low tackles. Not a pile mover. Average blocker who is reluctant to face up. Lacks explosiveness. Has an average lean and at times, dances too much. Not overly aggressive. Struggled against tough competition. Carried 51 times for 212 yards and three touchdowns vs. Iowa, Michigan and Ohio State, but 200-1,800 vs. everyone else. Not a home-run hitter on a consistent basis. Summary: A solid, durable back with size and deceptive speed who can also return kicks, Johnson benefits from a weak, weak RB class and likely will be a first-round pick. Bennie Joppru SELECTED BY HOUSTON , ROUND 2, PICK 9, OVERALL PICK 41 TE | (6-4, 272, 4.8) | MICHIGAN Notes: Redshirted in 1998, started once in '99, seven times in 2000 and three times in '01. Caught four passes for 51 yards and two touchdowns in 1999; 11-52-0 in 2000; and 17-118-1 in '01. Set Michigan single-season record for receptions by a tight end in '02, when he caught 53-579-5 and was a second-team All-Big Ten pick. Team co-captain as a senior. Wowed some personnel types at the Senior Bowl, when he was the lone tight end on the North roster and made acrobatic catches all week, then stood out in position drills at the Scouting Combine. Positives: Durable, reliable, above-average athlete with good to very good hands. Takes the ball out of the air like a vacuum cleaner and plucks the ball. Is capable of playing tight end or H-back and quick enough to get open, even down the seam. Makes the effort to block. Made positive strides as a senior, when he became more focused. Looks the part and has good body control. Negatives: Average blocker. Rounds some cuts. Doesn't have West Coast offense TE speed. Inconsistent route-runner, who can refine those skills. Basically a possession receiver who rarely goes down the field. Not very physical. Questionable character early in his career, but he has matured. Summary: Stock rose tremendously during his senior year. Isn't an elite athlete, but he has great hands, and if he works to improve blocking, he could become a complete NFL tight end. Taylor Jacobs SELECTED BY WASHINGTON , ROUND 2, PICK 12, OVERALL PICK 44 WR | (6-0, 205, 4.45) | FLORIDA Notes: High school and college sprinter. Ran an NCAA-qualifying 21.06 seconds in the 200 meters in the spring of 2002. Caught seven passes for 99 yards as a true freshman in 1999. No. 3 wide receiver in 2000 and '01. Caught 17-198 and one touchdown in 2000 and 38-712-7 in '01. Orange Bowl MVP vs. Maryland in '01 with 10-170-2. Team's go-to receiver in '02, when he caught 64-1,000-8 despite missing nearly three full games with a knee injury suffered at the start of the Georgia game in November. Missed Senior Bowl with deep thigh bruise, but had strong week of practice. Positives: Excellent character and competitor. Good size and very good speed. Sprinter who has the speed to get deep and to make a big play. Catches the ball very well and does a very nice job of adjusting to the poorly thrown ball. Smart and alert player who adjusts to coverage and helps his quarterback out. Is tough and strong, will catch in a crowd and will take the ball away from the defender. Negatives: More fast than quick and lacks great suddenness. Does not play to his track times. Is not a very shifty or elusive runner after the catch. Takes choppy steps. Admits he lacks self-confidence at times. Summary: Should be the first senior receiver drafted and should have a fine future in the NFL. Bethel Johnson SELECTED BY NEW ENGLAND , ROUND 2, PICK 13, OVERALL PICK 45 WR | (5-11, 201, 4.37) | TEXAS A&M Notes: Partial qualifier in 1998. Caught 27 passes for 514 yards and three TDs with a long of 74 yards and returned nine kickoffs for 174 yards and zero TDs in '99. Caught 42-440-0 with a long of 28 in 2000 in a more controlled, short passing game. Started the first two games in '01 and had caught 8-69-0 when he ruptured his spleen in Game Two vs. Wyoming and redshirted. Had additional surgery in the summer of '02 to remove abdominal obstruction adhesion that caused blockage, and his weight dropped. Started 12-of-12 games in '02, catching 40-718-8 (long of 78), rushing 5-37-0, and returned 12 punts 139 yards and 12 kickoffs 252 yards. Positives: Quick with a good release off the line of scrimmage. Has quick feet and good athletic ability. Strong, very quick runner after the catch. Aggressive, tough blocker. Can snatch and pluck the ball. Outstanding burst. Quick off the ball. Aggressive over the middle. Excellent athlete with good coordination, speed and agility. Can block when he wants to. Negatives: Doesn't work to get open or set up routes. Questionable football intelligence. Struggles blocking and using his speed. Lacks consistency. Likes to cradle and body catch. Lacks confidence in his hands. Underachiever. Must be pushed. Not a self-starter. Makes dumb plays. Runs undisciplined, sloppy routes. Better in 1999 than 2000. Struggles against bump coverage. Lacks explosiveness. Inconsistent hands. Has been his own worst enemy, relying only on his talent. Immature. Lacks toughness and drops balls on contact. Waits for the ball to come to him. Summary: Has the talent to be a solid No. 2 receiver but will have to improve his poor work habits to stand a chance. Anquan Boldin SELECTED BY ARIZONA , ROUND 2, PICK 22, OVERALL PICK 54 WR | (6-0, 216, 4.73) | FLORIDA STATE Notes: Florida's Mr. Football in high school, when he was a standout quarterback and set a state record with 11,433 total career yards. Played in 10 games and started one as a true freshman in '99, and caught 12 passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns, rushed four times for 33 yards and a touchdown and returned three kicks for 55 yards. Caught 41-664-6 in 2000, averaging 16.2 yards per catch. Missed all of '01 season and the '02 spring after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament during preseason drills. Contended for the starting QB job prior to injury but returned to receiver after an injury to WR Robert Morgan depleted the WR corps. Positives: Big, strong, physical receiver and team leader. Great size. Has improved strength and filled out his frame. Above-average hands. Can make the tough catch and makes plays when he touches the ball. Has a good burst. Can beat press coverage and shows run-after-the catch ability. Willing, above-average blocker. Shows a second gear. Can make the acrobatic catch, pluck and snatch. Has a good throwing arm. Negatives: Has durability questions stemming from ACL injury in his left knee. Struggles beating press coverage and getting off the line. Spotty concentration and will drop some easy balls. Does not have good technique. Hurt himself with 40 times above 4.7 at the Combine. Summary: Raw, lacks top-end speed and may not be fully recovered from an ACL injury, but he should be a first-day pick because of his natural size, athleticism and huge upside. Tyrone Calico SELECTED BY TENNESSEE , ROUND 2, PICK 28, OVERALL PICK 60 WR | (6-3, 223, 4.34) | MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE Notes: Redshirted in football in 1998 but played with the basketball team. Starting wide receiver from '99 through '02. Caught 65 passes for 695 yards and five touchdowns in 1999. Caught 47-752-3 in 2000 and 37-583-5 in '01. Caught 45-606-4 (13.5 average) and was a second-team All-Sun Belt honoree in '02. Had a respectable performance at Senior Bowl practices against top competition. Positives: Has great size, long arms, big hands and excellent speed and athletic ability. He also is a physical blocker. Though he hasn't played against top-caliber competition regularly, in 2000 he beat Mississippi State CB Fred Smoot (current Redskins starter) for two touchdowns, including one acrobatic catch. Can separate and beat the jam and flashes ability to adjust. Has great leaping ability but doesn't always show it. Can beat defensive backs off the line of scrimmage. Has deep speed, can be effective on the fade route and in the red zone. Strong runner after the catch. More fast than quick. Comes out of his breaks quickly. Negatives: Appears to lack soft hands and natural ball skills. He is late to get his head around, misjudges passes, doesn't have a good feel for running pass routes and is a body catcher who doesn't come back to or attack the ball. Is tentative at times in traffic and inconsistent in crowds. If he runs in the 4.4s, he surely doesn't play to that speed. Summary: A poor man's Terrell Owens, but he can improve playing the ball and needs to learn to play his size. His outstanding combination of strength, size and speed put on display at the Combine could make him a first-day pick. L.J. Smith SELECTED BY PHILADELPHIA , ROUND 2, PICK 29, OVERALL PICK 61 TE | (6-3, 258, 4.63) | RUTGERS Notes: Top high school basketball player who could have played major college hoops. Did not play in 1998. Didn't start in '99 but caught 26 passes for 418 yards with three touchdowns. Started every game in 2000 and '01 and was a second-team All-Big East pick in '01. Caught 34-374-1 in 2000 and 30-282-3 in '01, when he also lined up in the backfield and carried 16 times for 74 yards. Team's leading receiver in '02 despite playing with injuries throughout the season. Caught 32-384-3. Ended career as the second-most prolific tight end in Rutgers history. Named to Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I-A all-star team. Injured hamstring at Senior Bowl and sat out week but recovered in time to have a great Combine. Positives: Good slot receiver who is good in a crowd, can extend and catch with his hands and has good intangibles. Has straight-linish speed. Shows good desire and effort. Is durable and a productive pass catcher. Good adjusting to the ball. Good athletic ability, speed and hands. Can cut and gives effort to block. Can separate and get deep. Has the speed to get down the field. Has chisled upper body and gigantic biceps. Only tight end who ran three-cone under seven seconds (6.75) at the Scouting Combine. Also had a 37Н-inch vertical. Negatives: Must improve running after the catch. Has marginal control. Has to work to finish and is not real nifty or quick out of cuts. Lacks quick, fluid change of direction. Average redirecting. Cannot defeat jam quickly. Rounds routes and is a little straight-linish to finish. Positions and walls off blockers but struggles to sustain. Seal-off blocker who lacks power and punch. Summary: Good receiver and zone-buster type who can be an NFL tight end with some work. Teyo Johnson SELECTED BY OAKLAND , ROUND 2, PICK 31, OVERALL PICK 63 WR | (6-5, 247, 4.65) | STANFORD Notes: Played quarterback, wide receiver and defensive end in high school and ran track, running the 100 meters in 11.0 seconds and the 110 high hurdles in 14.3. Third-year sophomore who redshirted as a quarterback in 2000. Lettered in basketball in 2000, playing in 28 games, averaging 4.1 points and 2.2 rebounds. Played in 25 games, averaged 5.8 points and 4.8 rebounds as a power forward in '01. Moved to wide receiver in '01, where he caught 38 passes for 565 yards and seven touchdowns. Was named Pacific-10 Co-Freshman of the Year. Two-year letter-winner in both football and basketball, he gave up final two seasons in both football and basketball to enter draft. Started all 11 games played in '02, catching a team-high 41-467-8. Caught at least one TD pass in 14-of-23 games in which he played. Positives: Rare size and athletic ability. Can jump. Great height. Has long arms and big hands. Creates mismatches with defensive backs. Moves pretty well for a guy his size. Have to worry about him because he can hit the seam and go up and take it away. Negatives: Drops too many passes over the middle. Does not have great speed and quickness to separate. Struggles as a blocker. Doesn't have great change of direction or burst out of his break. Won't outrun people. Summary: Lacks speed to be a receiver and could be best-suited as a tight end or H-back. Where he is selected will depend on what a team plans to do with him. Could sneak up to the second round. Kelley Washington SELECTED BY CINCINNATI , ROUND 3, PICK 1, OVERALL PICK 65 WR | (6-2, 223, 4.5) | TENNESSEE Notes: Marginal college prospect as a 5-11, 170-pound high school quarterback and defensive back who signed with Hofstra after no other Division I school offered a scholarship in 1997. However, he was drafted in the 10th round of the June '97 baseball draft by the Florida Marlins and signed as a shortstop. Spent four years in the minors and convinced nobody he could be the next A-Rod, hitting .213 for his career and fielding so poorly he was moved to third base. Came to Tennessee in '01 as a 225-pound quarterback and receiver and was the talk of spring practice. Played in every game in the fall and started five games, catching 64 passes for 1,010 yards and five touchdowns. Had 11-256-1 vs. LSU, the Southeastern Conference champion, and won Freshman All-America and SEC Freshman of the Year honors. Sprained his knee in late August 2002 and suffered a partial tear of his left lateral collateral ligament at the start of the season. Was out against Alabama with a concussion. Had spinal-fusion surgery on Nov. 19, 2002 relating to a hit and concussion sustained on Oct. 12 vs. Georgia and had two vertebrae fused. Played in four games with two starts in '02, catching 23-443-1. Positives: Has good size, speed and strength, athletic ability and skills. Creates physical mismatches with defensive backs. Very natural, fluid and easy runner. Great athletic ability, hand-eye coordination, quickness, agility and balance. Tremendous upside. Had the strongest arm in the Tennessee program. Negatives: Needs to improve his route-running, consistency and blocking technique. Has to learn how to drop his weight getting into and out of breaks, run more precise routes and set up defensive backs. Needs to show more of a willingness to block. Has a huge ego, is flashy and turns people off. Cocky. Talker. Not polished. Has a longevity issue with neck injury. Summary: Tall, big, physical, quick, fast everything scouts are looking for from a physical standpoint but has a very serious neck situation and an oversized ego that will hurt him. Jason Witten SELECTED BY DALLAS , ROUND 3, PICK 5, OVERALL PICK 69 TE | (6-5, 264, 4.75) | TENNESSEE Notes: Entered the draft after his junior season. High school All-America tight end and defensive end. Enrolled in 2000 as a defensive end but was needed on offense, where he started twice in extra-TE sets and caught his first pass for 11 yards. Was the best tight end in the Southeastern Conference in '01, although, technically, he only started two games. Caught 28 passes for 293 yards and two touchdowns during the season and had 6-125-0 vs. Michigan in the Citrus Bowl. In 2002, was the leading receiver with 34-452-5, starting 12 of 12 regular-season games and earning All-SEC honors as a junior. Also started Peach Bowl (5-41-0). Finalist for the Mackey Award given to the nation's top tight end. Positives: Big, fast, strong and athletic. Competes hard. Has very good hands and can stretch defenses. Is physical and flashes dominating ability as a blocker. Can make the tough catch and run over and away from defenders. Has a great upside. Very strong with a 455-pound bench-press. Only 20 years old. Negatives: Not that fast. Inconsistent and not dominating as a blocker. Does not have thick legs and can improve running after the catch. Could have used another year in school. Summary: Because of his potential, size and strength, will be drafted in the first two rounds. Nate Burleson SELECTED BY MINNESOTA , ROUND 3, PICK 7, OVERALL PICK 71 WR | (6-0, 197, 4.54) | NEVADA-RENO Notes: Well-schooled receiver whose father played in the CFL. Partial qualifier in 1999. Started every game in 2000 and caught 57 passes for 921 yards and eight touchdowns, with a long of 80 yards. Missed two-plus games after dislocating his shoulder vs. Louisiana Tech in '01. However, in nine starts, he caught 53-737-2 with a long reception of 91 yards. Caught 138-1,629-12 with a long of 95 and ran 22-120-1 in 12 games in '02. Was a Biletnikoff finalist, a first-team American Football Coaches Association All-American and first-team All-Western Athletic Conference. Positives: Good athlete who runs very good, sharp routes, is quick into and out of his breaks and knows how to drop his weight. Motions are quick and smooth. Good technique. Above-average to good hands. Knows how to get open and makes things happen. Has good character and is a leader. Superproductive. Adequate size. Decent route-runner. Excellent leaper with a 42Н-inch vertical. Negatives: More quick than fast. Is an inconsistent receiver downfield. Likes to catch on his knees and uses his body too much. There is some wasted movement in his routes. Lacks bulk. Pass-friendly offensive system helped pad his statistics. Lacks burning speed. Summary: Will have a hard time converting his college production to the pro level. Could be greatly helped by a strong speed showing. Kevin Curtis SELECTED BY ST. LOUIS , ROUND 3, PICK 10, OVERALL PICK 74 WR | (5-11, 186, 4.45) | UTAH STATE Notes: Caught 30 passes for 600 yards and five touchdowns in 1996 at Snow College (Utah) and 55-1,100-19 in '97, when he was a junior college All-American at Snow. Went on a religious mission in '98 and '99. Enrolled at Utah State in 2000 and walked on to the football team. Redshirted in 2000 but more than earned a scholarship in '01, leading the nation in catches per game and finishing third in receiving yardage per game. Caught 100-1,531-10 in 11 games. Received scholarship in '02. Has been timed in the 4.3 area on Utah State's very fast timing surface. Started 10-of-11 games in '02, catching 74-1,258-9. Had strong Combine showing. Positives: Has speed, intangibles and smarts. Better-than-good athletic ability and hands. Can pluck the ball. Quick off the line of scrimmage. Runs good patterns. Good feet, speed and cutting ability. Leverages defender. Gets separation. Has a burst. Good hands and reacts to the ball. Can catch in crowd, adjust to the ball and get deep. Willing. Pesty blocker. Has second gear. Productive. Moves into and out of breaks with speed. Knows how to set up a defender. Will catch the ball anywhere. Has very good concentration, ball skills and hands. Good route runner. Has good feel for zone coverage. Negatives: Lacks great size and has some problems with press coverage and escaping bump. A little straight-linish. Needs better moves and more patience. Average strength and explosiveness. Gets knocked around and off routes. Not elusive after the catch. Summary: Does not have great size or speed but was very productive in college and is still learning the game. May not be as quick and crisp as Wayne Chrebet, but he is a very similar player. Mike Seidman SELECTED BY CAROLINA , ROUND 3, PICK 12, OVERALL PICK 76 TE | (6-4, 261, 4.85) | UCLA Notes: High school All-American. Played in 10 games in 1999 as a true freshman, played every game in 2000 and '01. Caught two passes for 28 yards in 1999; 6-80 and one touchdown in 2000; and 12-250-1 in '01, when he made his first start. Had a good spring and won the starting job going into fall practice. Started 12-of-12 games in '02, catching 41-631-5, and was named all-conference. Did not hurt himself at the Senior Bowl but couldn't run at the Scouting Combine because of a hernia. Positives: Adequate size and good smarts. Competitor who is workmanlike, durable and tough. Good, soft and natural hands. Can adjust and catch in space. OK position blocker who is big and physical. Works to block and is dedicated. Gets downfield. Quick to reach and hook block. Gets good fits and turns. Can position and wall off. Has thick legs and the speed to get deep and run after the catch. Negatives: Average strength and athletic ability. Not great blocking and catching and is not nasty, quick or fast. Is a stiff, position finesse blocker. Has a poor stance and is slow off the line of scrimmage. Glider and slider who strides and lumbers as a route runner. Is not fluid and lacks initial quickness. Lacks power as a base blocker. Summary: Decent all-around tight end who has some upside. Musa Smith SELECTED BY BALTIMORE , ROUND 3, PICK 13, OVERALL PICK 77 RB | (6-0, 232, 4.6) | GEORGIA Notes: Started two of nine games as a true freshman in 2000 but missed two games with a knee injury. Carried the ball 75 times for 330 yards and five touchdowns and caught 10 passes for 87 yards. Started five of nine games in '01 and carried 119-548-6. Also caught 19-242 with two touchdowns but was limited through most of the season by a hip flexor, which lingered into spring drills in '02. Started all 13 games in which he played in the fall and was a first-team Southeastern Conference performer by the media and second-team All-SEC by the coaches. Missed one start with a broken thumb but rushed 260-1,324-8 and caught 15-107-0 and was named MVP of the Sugar Bowl for his 145-yard rushing performance vs. Florida State. Chose not to run or work out at the Scouting Combine. Positives: Has good size and average-plus speed and balance. Falls forward, can cut back and runs hard. Can look like a power runner at times, especially near the goal line. Is not a blessed receiver but can catch in the flat and will block. Changes directions well and has a good, immediate burst to the line. Negatives: Lacks toughness and durability. Doesn't seem to have a second gear and is stiff and not elusive in the open field, where he is not a home-run or make-you-miss threat. Will run straight up. Suddenness is not consistent. Is below average as a pass blocker and route-runner. Summary: Stock could soar with a strong workout and he has a chance to contribute as a rookie. B.J. Askew SELECTED BY NEW YORK , ROUND 3, PICK 21, OVERALL PICK 85 RB | (0-0, 0) | MICHIGAN Dave Ragone SELECTED BY HOUSTON , ROUND 3, PICK 24, OVERALL PICK 88 QB | (6-3, 249, 4.94) | LOUISVILLE Notes: Started at quarterback just one year (his senior year) in high school. Redshirted in 1998. Threw only two passes (1-of-2 for seven yards) while backing up Chris Redman in '99. Took over as the starter in 2000 after Redman was drafted and completed 216-of-354 passes for 2,621 yards, 27 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and ran for 252 yards and six scores. Won Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2000. Won the same award in '01 and also was named the Liberty Bowl MVP. Completed 231-383-3,056-23-7 and ran for 66-3 during the regular season and completed 19-28-228-3-1 vs. Brigham Young in the Liberty Bowl. Named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year for third consecutive year in '02. Completed 237-441-2,880-24-11 although he was sacked more than any Division I-A quarterback and played with a young, injury-depleted WR corps. He did not help himself greatly at the Senior Bowl, but worked hard and with the help of Scott Linehan, former Louisville head coach (current Vikings offensive coordinator), bounced back strong with a good to outstanding workout at the Scouting Combine. Positives: Big, strong, highly aggressive player who likes to lift with the linemen and refuses to slide with the ball. Hard-throwing lefty who likes to challenge the defense downfield and has all of the intangibles. Has a strong, but not great arm and big hands. Ragone is a top leader but is also too tough, macho and competitive for his own good. Smart and coachable, but on a few passes seems to go brain-dead. In some ways he is similar to a young Boomer Esiason. Negatives: Seems too big and lacks athleticism. Does not throw a tight pass, and the ball will flutter and even die at times. Seems more accurate down the field than on soft-touch, dump-off passes. Will often make his receiver work for the ball instead of letting him run right through it. Is a better power runner than scrambler and avoider, but he takes unnecessary risks. Is kind of heavy-legged, knock-kneed and pigeontoed. Offense called for him to work out of the shotgun on more than 80 percent of his throws and that shows in his footwork. He doesn't always protect the ball when under pressure. Summary: Doesn't look like a quarterback, but in the right system, Ragone can be effective in the NFL. His leadership qualities might be his greatest asset, but Ragone will require a year or two holding the clipboard before he is ready. Vishante Shiancoe SELECTED BY NEW YORK , ROUND 3, PICK 27, OVERALL PICK 91 TE | (6-4, 251, 4.58) | MORGAN STATE Notes: Was recruited to bigger schools but felt like he wasn't mature enough for big-time campus. Redshirted in 1998. Caught two passes for 55 yards in '99; 1-23 with a touchdown in 2000; and 24-413-5 in '01. Caught 31-518-6 in '02, earning first-team All-Mideastern Athletic Conference honors. Opened a lot of eyes at his workout, and some NFL clubs moved him from a priority free agent to a first-day type after he ran a 4.58, a 39Н-inch vertical and pushed up 225 pounds 28 times all tops among tight ends tested at the Scouting Combine. Positives: Looks the part, with good size, speed and strength. Makes tough catches and wants the ball. Heads upfield after catches. Makes effort to block and can be a Velcro blocker (tough for defender to get off). Sustains blocks when he stays on his feet. Negatives: Is very raw and needs to add weight. Not very quick or nifty when it comes to running routes. Initial quickness and change-of-direction skills are lacking. Tries to block but is not overpowering. Is late off the ball and tends to get too upright. Can't consistently beat the jam. Summary: Has a decent chance to stick because of potential. Chris Brown SELECTED BY TENNESSEE , ROUND 3, PICK 29, OVERALL PICK 93 RB | (6-2, 220, 4.55) | COLORADO Notes: Fourth-year junior. Redshirted at Northwestern in 1999. Was recruited by Gary Barnett, who left NU before Brown enrolled. Brown spent 2000 at Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College. Came to Colorado in '01 and was part of three-man rotation at running back, carrying 190 times for 946 yards and 16 touchdowns with six receptions for 36 yards. Really dominated at the end of the year with 24-198-6 in the season finale vs. Nebraska and 33-182-3 in the Big 12 title game vs. Texas. May have rushed for more than 2,000 yards in 2002 if he did not miss the last two games with a bruised sternum suffered vs. Iowa State. As it was, finished the regular season with 275-1,744-18 rushing and five catches for 40 yards. Positives: Big, strong, powerful runner who can pick and slide inside. Finishes runs and is very effective in goal-line and short-yardage situations. Has exceptional power and balance for an upright runner and some Eddie George-type qualities. Negatives: Runs tall and exposed and takes so much punishment that injuries could be a problem. Also is exposed to big hits and will fumble the ball. Is not used much in the passing game. Lacks breakaway speed and great moves. Lanky. Summary: A top-flight back in the Eddie George mold, but he does not get his pads down before impact quite as well as George does, which could make fumbles and injuries a problem. Wilbur "billy" Mcmullen jr. SELECTED BY PHILADELPHIA , ROUND 3, PICK 31, OVERALL PICK 95 WR | (6-3, 210, 4.65) | VIRGINIA Notes: Did not start but still caught 28 passes for 483 yards and six touchdowns as a true freshman in 1999. Started 10 of 11 games in 2000, catching 30-541-3. Emerged as a star in '01, when he led the Atlantic Coast Conference in all key receiving categories and won All-ACC honors while catching 83-1,060-12. Sat out in the spring of '02 to rehabilitate his shoulder. Caught 68-886-3 as a senior and carried seven times for 37 yards and one touchdown. Positives: Good size. Thick, muscular, tall and wide with thick hips. Good worker who is good in the clutch. Quick feet. Great wingspan with long 35-inch arms down to his knees and big 10-inch hands. Durable and productive. Uses size well. Quick and sudden off the line. Hard to jam. Sinks hips into and out of breaks. Strong vs. the press. Quick hands and reflexes. Willing, tough, physical blocker who is strong after the catch. Takes long, strong strides with no wasted motion. Good hand-eye coordination and extends. Captain who is coachable and prepared with top intangibles. Excellent in a crowd. Very good adjusting to the ball ? knows how to position his body to shield the defender from the ball and uses his height well on alley-oop passes. Negatives: Lacks pure, top-end speed to get separation. Not a burner. Not real nifty. Lacks second gear and elusiveness. Better than good but not great hands. Lacks make-you-miss and may not be quick and fast enough to get separation on the next level. Summary: Is no burner but has adequate functional speed to get separation and the drive to be successful at the next level. Somewhat similar to Virginia standout Herman Moore, but not as refined as Moore was coming out of college. Borderline first-day pick. Justin Fargas SELECTED BY OAKLAND , ROUND 3, PICK 32, OVERALL PICK 96 RB | (6-0, 219, 4.38) | USC Notes: Justin's father, Antonio, is an actor, and played the role of Huggy Bear in the 1970s TV series "Starsky and Hutch." High school All-American sprinter who ran a 10.47 100-meter dash. Went to Michigan in 1998, and as a true freshman, carried 77 times for 277 yards and one touchdown, caught one pass for five yards and returned 16 kickoffs for 311 yards in 10 games, including one start. Broke his right leg (tibia and fibula) vs. Wisconsin in the 10th game that year. His knee did not heal well, and he had to have three surgeries because of it. The first surgery required the insertion of 12 screws and two titanium rods. After four months, the knee still was not healing properly, so his leg was rebroken, and two metal plates were inserted. The third surgery was done to fix tendons in his big toe that were damaged as a result of the breaks. Saw backup action as a running back and safety at Michigan in 2000 after sitting out the 1999 season to rehab. Requested the move to safety midway through the 2000 season. Had 18 carries for 85 yards, seven kickoff returns for 124 yards and 10 tackles in 2000. Came to USC in '01 but had to sit out as a transfer. Underwent a fourth surgery at USC in '01 to straighten his right big toe (a residual effect from broken legs). Had a good spring in '02 at running back, including two outstanding scrimmages. However, strained his right hamstring and missed the opener vs. Auburn. Served as backup from Games Two through Seven and vs. Notre Dame. Started five games late in the season and finished the year rushing 161-715-7, catching 8-101 and returning kickoffs 7-132. Was named second-team All-Pacific-10 and had an impressive showing at the Senior Bowl, which really improved his stock. Continued to rise at the Scouting Combine, where he ran under 4.4 in the 40, benchpressed 225 pounds 27 times and recorded a broad jump of 11 feet, five inches. Can remind you of Robert Smith with his gait, but is not the same all-everything runner. Situation is similar to that of Jets RB Curtis Martin, who wasn't highly thought of coming out of Pitt because he was always dinged up. Since then, he has been one of the most durable and productive runners in the NFL after being drafted in the third round, 74th overall, by New England in 1995. Positives: Outstanding speed. Has a lot of upside, good initial quickness. Well-built with a "V" shape. Showed good strength and agility at the Scouting Combine. Good athletic ability. Has come on and really improved. Runs hard with vision, has some blocking ability and OK hands. Doesn't have a lot of football mileage. Good kid. Talented. Negatives: Not durable. Immature and did not have great production. Has had a lot of injuries. Had to have right leg rebroken after four months because it wasn't healing correctly. Lacks toughness. Runs upright and narrow-based and gets crushed. Thin lower body. Summary: Fargas showed great speed, strength and agility in the second half of the season and improved his stock more than anyone at the Combine. One team will overlook his durability questions, which must be weighed, and draft him higher than some teams expect. Chris Simms SELECTED BY TAMPA BAY , ROUND 3, PICK 33, OVERALL PICK 97 QB | (6-4, 220, 4.82) | TEXAS Notes: High school All-American and USA Today Offensive Player of the Year. Also played basketball. Son of former Giants QB Phil Simms but, unlike his father, throws left-handed. Originally signed with Tennessee to replace Peyton Manning but shifted gears and went to Texas. Played as a freshman and started once. Started five games and the Holiday Bowl in 2000 and the first 12 games in '01. Would have entered the '02 draft had he not been benched in the finale of his junior season. Completed 19-of-26 passes for 223 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in '99. Completed 67-117-1,064-8-7 in 2000; and 214-362-2,603-22-11 in '01. Started all 13 games in '02 and completed 235-396-3,207-26-12 and was a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award for the second consecutive year. Also named third-team All-Big 12 by the coaches. Positives: Good size, work ethic and character. Has a good setup, touch and accuracy on short-to-medium throws. Smart with pocket awareness. Good on play-action fakes and the bootleg. Can make some throws on the run and find the No. 2 receiver. Has short accuracy and a better-than-good arm. Hard-working. Has been overhyped throughout his career and faced unrealistic expectations, yet has handled it very maturely. Has average mobility and is a student of the game. Negatives: Streaky, erratic and has tunnel vision. Locks on to one receiver, lacks judgment and presses in big games, when he forces balls. Does not have a great arm and measures a lot of throws. Lacks speed and has average athletic ability. Has an inconsistent delivery point. Has little scrambling ability or elusiveness. Does not anticipate receivers well on crossing routes. Has had an up-and-down career. Throws late and behind receivers too often, but because he played with great wideouts, his completion percentage is misleading. Is more like former USC and Browns QB Paul McDonald than his father. Has an inconsistent delivery ranging from three-quarters to sidearm. Lacks great intuitiveness. Gets in trouble when he tries to force the ball into cracks. Overrates his arm and accuracy. Lacks great timing. Can improve his decision-making. Summary: Simms has many NFL tools, but his decision-making and performance under pressure have to improve for him to realize his potential. Does not have his father's talent, but has a stronger arm and could be a better pro quarterback than he was at Texas. Artose Pinner SELECTED BY DETROIT , ROUND 4, PICK 2, OVERALL PICK 99 RB | (5-9, 229, 4.6) | KENTUCKY Notes: Did not run at the Combine after fracturing his left foot at the Senior Bowl on January 18 and 40 time is from spring 2002. Played in four games in 1999 but did not start and rushed 16 times for 62 yards. Started two of seven games in 2000 and rushed 39 times for 188 yards and caught nine passes for 28 yards. Started three games in '01 and played in all 11. Rushed 100-441 with four touchdowns and caught 12 passes for 115 yards. Was a standout in spring '02 and started 11-of-12 games in the fall, rushing 283-1,467-13 and catching 12-37 and two scores. Positives: Strong, hard-charging, north-south runner with great power and body lean. Finishes his runs and breaks first tackle. Can still see cracks in the line and has good hands. Stocky build and straight-ahead running style makes him tough to bring down, especially in the secondary because he runs with all elbows and thigh pads. Maintains a good pad level. Huge legs, some quickness and pretty good vision and balance. Negatives: Is not reliable at times and has stretches where he doesn't seem to run with enough power. Takes reps off. Not committed as a worker. Struggles as a pass-blocker and can leave the ball unprotected. Doesn't make sudden cuts and is not a threat as an outside runner. Summary: Because he is not fast or explosive, Pinner won't be seen as more than a change-of-pace back. Domanick Davis SELECTED BY HOUSTON , ROUND 4, PICK 4, OVERALL PICK 101 RB | (5-9, 213, 4.62) | LSU Notes: Raised his stock at the Senior Bowl. Top backup and all-purpose back who started once in 2000 and twice in '01. Carried 64 times for 274 yards and three touchdowns, caught 13 passes for 94 yards and returned 25 kickoffs for 618 yards and 12 punts for 66 yards in '99. Rushed 123-445-5, caught 9-120-0 and returned kickoffs 24-572 and punts 27-298 in 2000. In '01, rushed 75-406-5, caught 3-49-1 and returned kickoffs 22-418 and punts 19-263 with one touchdown. That year, started once at halfback, once as an extra defensive back and in the Sugar Bowl after LaBrandon Toefield tore up his knee. Carried 193-931-7 in '02, when he also caught 16-130-0 and had one return for a touchdown. Showed good versatility at the Senior Bowl. Positives: Davis is a well-built, compact, all-purpose back who does his best running outside and in the open field. Davis is not fast over 40 yards, but he is very quick and sudden, has the moves to make you miss and has very good hands. A solid returner who can break the long one and seems to read blocks better with everything in front of him. Has good ball security. Keeps shoulders square to the line of scrimmage. Negatives: He has not been an effective inside runner and is not much of a blocker. Does not see the cutback lanes quickly and can be timid between the tackles. Lacks moves in the open field. Can drop passes that aren't perfect. Hasn't been tested over time. Strong at the point of attack. Has tight hips. Summary: Davis has a future as a change-of-pace, third-down back and returner. George Wrighster SELECTED BY JACKSONVILLE , ROUND 4, PICK 7, OVERALL PICK 104 TE | (6-2, 249, 4.72) | OREGON Notes: Left school with one year of eligibility remaining. Played in 12 games as a freshman in 2000, mostly as a backup or in mop-up work, but did not have a catch. Played in 12 games in '01, when he caught 12 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown. Started 13 of 13 games in '02 and caught 41-568-6. Positives: Can catch and block. Good athlete who has a solid burst, soft hands to pluck the ball and the speed to get open down the field. Has improved blocking. Will make the difficult catch and adjust to the ball in the air. Isn't a great run-after-the-catch player, but he runs with a purpose. Has good speed. Negatives: Does not have great speed. Needs more experience. Will struggle against top defensive ends and experienced linebackers and doesn't get off the line as well as he should. Undersized. Lacks upper-body strength. Summary: Given time to learn, develop his football intelligence and add bulk, Wrighster could eventually compete for a starting job. Onterrio Smith SELECTED BY MINNESOTA , ROUND 4, PICK 8, OVERALL PICK 105 RB | (5-9, 220, 4.45) | OREGON Notes: High school All-American. Played in eight games as a true freshman at Tennessee in '99, when he rushed for 189 yards and four touchdowns, averaging just more than six yards per carry, with two catches for 25 yards and a score. Dismissed from the team for rules violations. Transfer redshirt in 2000. Started just one game but split time in '01 with Seahawks 2002 second-round draft pick Maurice Morris and carried 161-1,007-7, caught 8-63, threw a TD pass and returned 12 kickoffs for 338 yards with a touchdown. Started 10-of-10 games in '02 as a fourth-year junior, carrying 244-1,141-12. Caught 13-78 and returned seven kickoffs for 175 yards. Positives: Fluid, natural runner who can lower pads and deliver a blow and make defenders miss. Is agile, quick and instinctive and plays bigger than his size. Has a good center of gravity, good power, instincts, vision, skills and top ability and can break long runs and make big plays. Superb athlete with excellent running skills. Negatives: Sometimes runs into the man to beat in the open field. May be better inside in traffic. Character is a big concern. Needs work in the passing game and on blocking. Must improve focus and attention to detail. Summary: Great natural athletic ability, but his character will affect where he is drafted. He must stay out of trouble to have success at the next level. Shaun Mcdonald SELECTED BY ST. LOUIS , ROUND 4, PICK 9, OVERALL PICK 106 WR | (5-8, 169, 4.5) | ARIZONA STATE Notes: Redshirted in 1999. Played in 12 games in 2000, starting two in multiple receiver sets. Caught 22 passes for 358 yards and one touchdown, carried five times for 30 yards and led team in punt returns with 28 returns for 263 yards and one touchdown and three kickoffs for 42 yards. Started eight of 11 games in '01, leading team with 47-1,104-11, including a five-catch, four-TD, 154-yard performance vs. Louisiana-Lafayette. Forced a fumble on special teams. Earned first-team All-Pacific-10 honors. Named team's offensive MVP in '02, when he caught 76-1,291-13, including two games with more than 200 yards receiving. Set school records for yardage and reception totals. Biletnikoff Award finalist. Positives: Good quickness, agility and balance. Has great hands and is a good route runner. Tough. Not afraid to catch in traffic or go across the middle. Great concentration. Sets up defensive backs, sinks hips and runs sharp routes. Very polished. Leader. Excellent running after the catch. Good returner. Has playmaking ability. Finds a way to get open. Deion Branch type. Negatives: Lacks size and height. Struggles beating jams and press coverage. Little target. Willing blocker, but not an effective blocker. Lacks strength. Summary: Would have benefitted greatly from another year of school. Needs to get stronger but could develop into a reliable slot or No. 2 receiver. Return ability could make him a first-day pick. Quentin Griffin SELECTED BY DENVER , ROUND 4, PICK 11, OVERALL PICK 108 RB | (5-7, 195, 4.43) | OKLAHOMA Notes: School's press guide indicates he has been timed in 4.36, but he does not look like it. Was slated to redshirt in 1999 but wound up playing in the last last five games. Started the last two years. Had 44 carries for 285 yards and four touchdowns and 11 catches for 107 yards and a score as a true freshman. Had 189-783-16 rushing and 45-406-0 receiving in 2000; and 182-884-9 and 55-448-2 in '01, when he missed the Kansas game with a hip pointer. Started 14-of-14 games in '02, carrying 287-1,884-15 with a long of 63. Piled up 134.6 yards per game. Caught 35-264-3 and capped that with a strong workout at the Scouting Combine. Played in a one-back, spread offense that opens things up for the running back. Positives: Quick to cut back and has good vision, anticipation, make-you-miss, ball security and hands. Fine character. Idolizes Barry Sanders. Griffin is a good worker who plays hurt and has some Sanders-type moves, balance, feet and vision. Griffin is built thick, moves well laterally and is durable and explosive. Good balance and feel for running inside. He finishes runs and catches the ball nicely. Rarely fumbles and has a knack around the goal line. Negatives: Shorter than teams would like with average power and elusiveness. More quick than fast. Gets overpowered and bounced but is willing. Lacks strength inside but runs well vs. spread out defense. Lacks great second gear. Plays to speed. Despite some very good weight-room numbers and balance, he is not a powerful runner who will break a lot of tackles. Summary: Could become another Brian Mitchell if he dedicates himself to being a role player. Has the pass-catching skills to help on third downs. Seneca Wallace SELECTED BY SEATTLE , ROUND 4, PICK 13, OVERALL PICK 110 QB | (5-11, 196, 4.5) | IOWA STATE Notes: Went to Oregon State as a defensive back but before playing a game, returned to be closer to home when his mother was diagnosed with cancer, and played at Sacramento City College in 1999 and 2000. Began career at Sacramento as a wide receiver but moved to quarterback after the starter was injured. Completed 106-of-155 passes for 1,398 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed for 330 yards and 13 scores in 1999. In 2000, passed for 3,675 yards and 22 touchdowns and rushed for 550 yards and nine touchdowns. Enrolled at Iowa State in January '01 and established himself by the end of spring practice. Named Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year and team co-MVP in '01, when he completed 167-of-269 for 2,044 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Also rushed 114-475-7. Offensive MVP of the Independence Bowl after completing 25-of-42 for 284 yards vs. Alabama. Started all 13 regular-season games in '02 and completed 231-405-3,138-14-18 and rushed for 11-354-8. Was totally shut down vs. Oklahoma, when he completed 4-22-43 and threw three interceptions. Also rushed for minus-28 yards. Completed 13-38-107-1-0 and rushed 12-83-0 in a 34-16 loss to Boise State in the Humanitarian Bowl. Was a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Award. Positives: Best pure athlete on the team. Very fluid and plays faster than he clocks. He views himself as a passing quarterback who can run, not the other way around. Has a quick, overhand delivery and an uncanny knack for throwing while on the move in either direction. Plays with confidence and poise. Has NFL arm strength and superior instincts that he really relies upon. Has quick feet, is smooth in the pocket and can scramble and avoid pressure. Throws well moving to his left or right and gets good drive on the ball even when throwing off the wrong foot. Seems to do the right thing without thinking about it. Negatives: Lack of height is a concern. Will force throws and can struggle to find his No. 2 receiver. Doesn't always read coverages well and has hot-and-cold streaks as a passer. Will refuse to concede a play and gets greedy at times. He has said he does not want to consider a position change. Was decent at the Senior Bowl as a quarterback, but rubbed a lot of teams the wrong way by refusing to run routes at the Scouting Combine. Some teams imply that Wallace is more cocky than confident, but can't dispute his athleticism (4.5 40-yard dash, 38-inch vertical leap). Summary: Is under six feet tall, but he could make it in the NFL if he's willing to be a jack-of-all-trades and third-string quarterback early in his career. Lee Suggs SELECTED BY CLEVELAND , ROUND 4, PICK 18, OVERALL PICK 115 RB | (5-11, 202, 4.55) | VIRGINIA TECH Notes: Ran a 4.38 in the spring of 2001 before knee injury. Top high school sprinter with unofficial bests of 10.4 in the 100 meters and 6.2 in the 55 meters. Redshirted at Virginia Tech in 1998. Lettered in '99, when he carried 44 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns and caught one pass for one yard. Missed two games after having his knee scoped. Unanimous All-Big East and co-Big East Player of the Year (shared with Michael Vick) in 2000, when he carried 222-1,207-27, caught 3-44 and one touchdown and led the nation in scoring. Carried 12-99-2 in the first half of Virginia Tech's '01 opener vs. Connecticut in '01 and then tore his left anterior cruciate ligament and medial meniscus. Had surgery on Sept. 14, 2001. Started 13 games in '02, carrying 238-1,255-20 with a long of 59 and catching 11-126-2. Was named second-team All-Big East. Positives: Has excellent speed. Thick, solid and well-cut body with a good bubble. Very quick and fast with shiftiness and great acceleration. Anticipates, sees holes and cutback lanes. Is instinctive, especially inside, and powerful and breaks tackles. Good lateral movement. Runs strong with low pads. Is a willing and tough blocker, a great worker and a great competitor. North-south, top goal-line runner and non-fumbler with exceptional balance. Will work to finish his runs, breaks arm tackles and gets a lot of yardage after contact. Negatives: Lacks great hands and does not run good routes. Can get better at blocking. Durability is a concern, since he had major knee surgery on his left knee in September of '01 and his right knee scoped in April of '02 and October of '99. Not really elusive and more instinctive inside. Cannot juke and lacks make-you-miss in the open field. Not a top outside runner and is better in traffic than the open field. Rarely used in the passing game and needs to develop his hands and route-running. Summary: Suggs can run with speed and power. Had he not suffered a knee injury in 2001, he would be a first-rounder, and perhaps the best back in the draft. He would be a good value in the second round. Jeremi Johnson SELECTED BY CINCINNATI , ROUND 4, PICK 21, OVERALL PICK 118 FB | (5-11, 260, 4.9) | WESTERN KENTUCKY Notes: Transferred to Western Kentucky from Indiana prior to 2002 season. High school All-American. Freshman All-Big Ten in '99, when he started four of 11 games and carried 69 times for 282 yards and two touchdowns and caught 10 passes for 90 yards and a touchdown. Rotated with senior De'Wayne Hogan in 2000, carrying 20-103-2 and catching 11-83-0. Started all but one game in '01, his best season. Rushed 95-546-7 and caught 16-213-1. In '02, he rushed 102-637-2 and caught 23-310-2 in 15 games. Positives: Is massive, durable and productive. Has initial burst and quickness and burst to elude. Runs strong inside and maintains a good pad level. Has good vision and is tough to tackle because he keeps his feet moving. Does have some flexibility and can make the tough catch. Is a good lead blocker and adequate in blitz pickup. Has the feet, power and balance to be an I-back in a power offense, where he could be his own blocker. Negatives: Can be immature and has some character and work-ethic questions. Gets out of shape. Needs to pay attention to detail. Can be slow to and through the hole as the ballcarrier. Summary: Has a chance to become a premier NFL fullback if he keeps his weight between 250-260 pounds and displays a better work ethic. Justin Griffith SELECTED BY ATLANTA , ROUND 4, PICK 24, OVERALL PICK 121 FB | (5-11, 232, 4.6) | MISSISSIPPI STATE Notes: Carried three times for nine yards and a touchdown in the 1998 opener and then redshirted. Started every game at fullback in '99, carrying 62-196-5 and catching 37 passes for 380 yards and a pair of scores. Played both fullback and tailback in 2000, with his only start coming at fullback. Carried 44-136-2 and caught 19-240-2. Started three games in '01 and played in five. Griffith injured his neck in Game Three and tried to come back, but he reinjured it and had to have surgery to remove bone spurs. Injured his ankle against Kansas State but didn't miss a start. In '02, started every game as a senior, when he led the team in rushing with 91-471-2. Also caught 19-199-0. Plays a little bit like ex-Georgia FB Verron Haynes. Positives: Undersized but thick and powerfully built with excellent upper-body strength. Did more reps (29) of 225 than any other fullback at the Scouting Combine. Has quick feet and movements. Knows the game. Had low test scores but is an honor-roll student. Runs low and level with great determination that often moves the pile. Is not a dummy out of the backfield and actually has soft, natural hands. Has some tailback-type pick-and-slide ability. Makes adjustments to the ball well and has a feel for the passing game. Shows balance and a low center of gravity as a lead blocker. Could be a one-back or a tailback in a power-type offense. Negatives: Lacks size, and at times that will limit him as a blocker. Does not have the speed or the make-you-miss ability scouts look for at tailback. Feet stop upon collision as a lead blocker. Not a great knock-you-back fullback. Summary: Doesn't have the size of a conventional fullback, but he is a willing blocker who is also capable of running in a single-back power set. Brandon Lloyd SELECTED BY SAN FRANCISCO , ROUND 4, PICK 27, OVERALL PICK 124 WR | (6-0, 184, 4.61) | ILLINOIS Notes: Fourth-year junior who gave up his final year of eligibility to enter the draft. College high-jumper and high-hurdler who has placed in the Big Ten meet in both the long jump and 60-meter high hurdles in the past (third as a freshman in spring 2000). Started seven-of-12 games as a true freshman in 1999, catching 30 passes for 511 yards and two touchdowns, and returning 11 kickoffs for 194 yards and five punts for 65 yards. Redshirted in 2000 after breaking his left leg in a freakish accident where he caught his foot between the curb and a parking block. Came back in '01 to catch 60-1,006-8 during the regular season and 5-56-2 in the Sugar Bowl. Caught 65-1,010-9 in '02. Was named Second-Team All-Big Ten by the Associated Press. Positives: Excellent athlete who is learning to shorten stride and get into and out of breaks better. More quick than fast but wants to be a go-to guy. Body control is phenomenal. Has very good hands and is an all-around playmaker. Makes the acrobatic catch and can really sky for the ball. Consistent. Catches nearly everything thrown his way. Great natural athlete who works hard. Negatives: Not a burner but can get downfield. Will still take long strides and needs route refinement. Doesn't always accelerate after the catch and has trouble breaking tackles. Needs to improve overall strength. Arrogance rubs some people the wrong way. Summary: Did not show the speed at the Combine to warrant a first-round pick, but Lloyd has the talent to be a steady No. 2 receiver in the NFL who would be best-suited opposite a burner. Sam Aiken SELECTED BY BUFFALO , ROUND 4, PICK 30, OVERALL PICK 127 WR | (6-1, 209, 4.62) | NORTH CAROLINA Notes: Nickname is "Sleeper" because of tattoo across his belly reading "Sleeper" that he got in high school as motivation when he was classified as such during his senior year. High school football and basketball star who finished second in the state high jump. Caught three passes for 16 yards as a freshman, when he also returned 13 kickoffs for 276 yards and 12 punts for 23 yards. Caught 29-410-3 and returned 18 kickoffs for 365 yards and two punts for 20 yards in 2000. Hauled in a team-best 46-789-8 in '01, while also returning five kickoffs for 105 yards and nine punts for 79 yards. Set school records in receptions and receiving yards as a senior with 68 receptions and 990 yards; he also had four TD catches and three 100-yard games. Led the Atlantic Coast Conference in receiving yards per game (82.5) and catches per game (5.67). Had a strong showing at the Senior Bowl, when he was named the game's offensive MVP with nine catches for 69 yards. Positives: A big, physical and strong receiver who does the little things. Has 39Н-inch vertical. Has good ball skills and hands. Likes to go over the middle and can make the tough catch in traffic with his huge hands. Wants the ball in clutch situations. Continuously beats the jam, avoids press and uses his strength well. Was on kick-coverage and punt-coverage teams and can also return. Has some niftiness and is flexible. Reliable and consistent. Has enough size to be a possession receiver. Negatives: Isn't quick or sudden off the line of scrimmage and doesn't have top or pure speed. Doesn't get deep and can have trouble gaining separation against top corners. Is not a playmaker after the catch and will get caught from behind. Summary: Solid, possession-type receiver who could catch and block, but his lack of vertical speed really hurts his upside potential. Labrandon Toefield SELECTED BY JACKSONVILLE , ROUND 4, PICK 35, OVERALL PICK 132 RB | (5-10, 233, 4.59) | LSU Notes: Tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in high school. Redshirted in 1999 then started all 10 games as a redshirt freshman in 2000. Rushed 165 times for 682 yards and five touchdowns and caught seven passes for 44 yards to be named to the Freshman All-America team. Started 11-of-12 games in '01, when he rushed 230-992-19 and caught 13-148 before tearing his left anterior cruciate ligament in the Southeastern Conference title game vs. Tennessee. Came back in '02 but fractured his left radius (forearm) vs. Louisiana-Lafayette and missed four games. Still posted decent numbers, rushing 116-475-2 and catching 5-41-1. Positives: Is a patient runner who is bullish with his speed. He is an adequate receiver but is not much of a threat in the passing game right now. Runs instinctively and finishes most of his runs. Has good pad level most times and good body lean as a north-south runner. Negatives: Really snake-bitten in terms of injuries. Has average to average-plus speed but doesn't turn the corner often. Did not like school. History of knee injuries will be a great concern. Summary: Ultraproductive back with first- or second-round talent when healthy. The problem is, he cannot stay healthy. Medical exam lasted more than six straight hours at the Scouting Combine, further evidence that NFL teams are gun shy because of his medical history. Ovie Mughelli SELECTED BY BALTIMORE , ROUND 4, PICK 37, OVERALL PICK 134 FB | (6-1, 255, 4.8) | WAKE FOREST Notes: Name is pronounced "OH-vee muy-HAY-lee." Has gained 42 pounds of solid weight since he enrolled in 1998. Played in nine games in '99 and carried 16 times for 80 yards. Started eight of 11 in 2000, carried 40-128 and one touchdown and made his first catch, although it was for zero yards. Used as an "I" fullback and tight end in '01 and started six games. Did not carry the ball but caught 7-53. Rushed 81-322-12 and caught 10-111-0 in '02. Positives: A big, physical, blocking back who can play some tight end in a two-TE set. Has a burst out of set and to the point of attack, keeps his pads low and can slide. Is a sturdy blocker who can extend and catch away from the frame of his body but will drop some passes. Jars defenders with his initial hit at times and will finish his blocks when he hits cleanly. Negatives: Needs to gear down and adjust better as a blocker. Doesn't show much as a ballcarrier and looks uncomfortable in the open field. Lacks upper-body strength from not bench-pressing, which no one does in Wake Forest's strength progam. Lacks great flexibility. Will fall off of blocks and doesn't change directions well. Summary: Mughelli can run out of a power formation, but he is a pure fullback and one of the best in the draft. Bobby Wade SELECTED BY CHICAGO , ROUND 5, PICK 4, OVERALL PICK 139 WR | (5-10, 193, 4.68) | ARIZONA Notes: Was a state Player of the Year in football, a 5A triple-jump champion in track and a baseball player. Made an impact as a true freshman, catching 30 passes for 454 yards and four touchdowns with a long of 42 and returning 10 kickoffs for 191 yards. Caught 45-626-3 with a long of 75, returned kickoffs 3-16 and punts 26-262 and one touchdown in 2000, despite a shoulder injury that caused him to miss the San Diego State game and required postseason surgery. Came back in '01 to catch 62-882-8 with a long of 56, return kickoffs 3-67 and punts 23-239-0. Had his best season in '02, catching 93-1,389-8 with a long of 74, and returning kickoffs 17-332 and one touchdown and returning punts 16-224-0. Positives: Wade is a very athletic and productive receiver who can return punts. He has quick hands and feet and soft, natural hands. He is quick into and out of his breaks and gets separation. He wants the ball in the clutch. Has exceptional ability to run after the catch, fine return skills and superior balance. Runs with a low center of gravity and will break tackles. Negatives: Lacks size for a possession guy as well as long speed. Gets caught from behind a lot. Rarely makes catches behind defensive backs. Production is mainly short-to-intermediate. Summary: An excellent football player who may not go very high because of his size-speed ratio. Much quicker than fast and plays much bigger and stronger than he tests out. Justin Gage SELECTED BY CHICAGO , ROUND 5, PICK 8, OVERALL PICK 143 WR | (6-4, 217, 4.65) | MISSOURI Notes: Top high school football and basketball player who played both sports at Missouri but was a better football player and the best athlete on the football team. Gage enrolled as a quarterback in 1999 and was slated to redshirt, but he wound up playing the last three games after the team got hit with injuries. Moved to wide receiver in 2000 and caught 44 passes for 709 yards and four touchdowns and also completed 2-of-5 passes for 105 yards with no scores. Numbers improved to 74-920-5 in '01. Both the Tigers' Offensive MVP and an All-Big 12 first-team pick the last two seasons. Started 12 games in '02 and caught 82-1,075-9 and rushed two times for nine yards. Positives: Has very good size, outstanding hands and ball skills. Has superb body control and adjusts to the ball very well. Can make the great acrobatic grabs and catches well in crowds. Flexible for his size and has great toughness. Upside is the key he can only get stronger, faster and more competitive. Negatives: Lacks physical strength because he missed offseason weight programs to play basketball and was doing basketball workouts, not football. More of a fluid strider than a quick mover. Lacks speed and sudden movements. Doesn't give a consistent effort as a blocker. Summary: Has the potential to be a playmaker because of his size, hands and body control but doesn't have elite speed. Dan Curley SELECTED BY ST. LOUIS , ROUND 5, PICK 13, OVERALL PICK 148 TE | (6-4, 254, 4.61) | EASTERN WASHINGTON Notes: Played in eight games, started five and missed three with an injury in 1998. Played in every game and started eight in '99. Redshirted in 2000 after fracturing his right kneecap in fall practice. Came back in '01 to start the opener but broke a bone near his left wrist, and the injury required multiple surgeries. Then an infection that caused him to lose weight set in and kept him out of action through spring practice and into the fall of '02. Played well once he got back, starting with the Idaho State game, and finished the year catching 31 passes for 378 yards and five touchdowns. Weight can fluctuate between 230 to 265. Playing weight is about 240-245. Positives: Good athlete who catches the ball very well. Has some speed and a little run after the catch. Not a power blocker but can Velcro his man and is not that easy to shed. Negatives: Possible medical risk or reject. Had six procedures on his lower left arm, which practically has been surgically reconstructed. Lacks the strength and power to get much movement as an in-line blocker. Will probably have to be an H-back or receiving tight end. Could improve upper-body strength. Summary: Could catch on as an H-back if he can pass a physical, given all the surgeries he had on his left lower arm. Good workout at the Scouting Combine works in his favor. Donald Lee SELECTED BY MIAMI , ROUND 5, PICK 21, OVERALL PICK 156 TE | (6-3, 249, 4.8) | MISSISSIPPI STATE Notes: Played basketball and ran track in high school. Started three games as a true freshman, eight times in 2000 and all nine games that Mississippi State opened with a tight end (nine) in '01. Caught four passes for 49 yards and a score in 1999; 19-204-1 in 2000; and 16-197-0 in '01. Started 10-of-12 games in '02 and caught 22-161-1. Positives: Durable athlete with nimble feet and fluid movements. Has quickness, agility, balance and good feet. Can be a tenacious blocker who gets into his blocks quickly, has pop and works to sustain. Good leg drive. Runs good pass routes for a tight end and gets good separation underneath. Generally holds on to the ball. Makes good adjustments to the ball and is good in traffic. Is smart and plays bigger and faster than his measurables indicate. Good strength and athleticism. Good in-line blocker on the second level. Negatives: Likes to catch with his body and will double catch. Doesn't have natural hands or a feel for pass blocking. Has become much stronger and isn't always quick to learn. Loses leverage at times and lacks great bulk. Summary: A solid player who could improve in the future and has moved up boards with strong showings at the East-West Shrine Game and Scouting Combine. Adrian Madise SELECTED BY DENVER , ROUND 5, PICK 23, OVERALL PICK 158 WR | (5-11, 215, 4.52) | TEXAS CHRISTIAN Notes: Transfer from Middle Georgia College. Became a starter four games into the 2001 season and went on to lead TCU in receiving with 50 catches for 819 yards and five TDs. Started nine of 10 games in '02, catching 30-506-2. Sat out vs. Tulane with back spasms. Positives: Thick-bodied and well-built like a running back. Good athletic ability, speed and hands. Makes sharp cuts. Has good, deceptive playing speed. Catches well and runs after the catch. Can extend, reach and has excellent ability to adjust to the ball in the air. Will block. Has shown he can get behind the defense at this level but does not look like a burner. Very strong for a receiver. Negatives: Poor stance. Too high with no lean. Slow off the line of scrimmage. Not sudden off the ball. Does not have great quickness or consistency. Poor leaper. Summary: Could get late-round consideration but nothing special. Jon Olinger SELECTED BY ATLANTA , ROUND 5, PICK 24, OVERALL PICK 159 WR | (0-0, 0) | CINCINNATI Aaron Walker SELECTED BY SAN FRANCISCO , ROUND 5, PICK 26, OVERALL PICK 161 TE | (6-5, 252, 4.73) | FLORIDA Notes: Outstanding high school football and baseball player who also lettered in basketball. Played designated hitter for the Florida baseball team in the past. Pittsburgh Pirates told Walker he would be a second-round pick in the amateur draft, but he chose to hit linebackers instead of curve balls. In football, played 10 games as a redshirt freshman in 1999, catching one pass for 13 yards. Played in every game in 2000 and '01, starting seven games in '00 and catching 12-148 with two touchdowns. Started nine games in '01 with 16-179-2. Started every game in '02 and snatched 25-365-3. Used strong showings at the Senior Bowl and Scouting Combine to greatly improve his stock. Positives: Big target who knows how to use his size. Runs well and can stretch the defense. Generally catches the ball well and seems to have soft, natural hands. Has been durable. Generally is a willing blocker who is not bad at sticking to his man. Negatives: Lacks the body build and base for power blocking, with a narrower lower body and without a big butt. Does not have the leverage necessary to drive a big man off the line. Despite generally catching the ball well, had three untimely drops against Florida State at the end of the season. Does not do a lot after the catch. Not very aggressive. Summary: One of the better tight ends in the draft but not a special player, he will likely be a flex-type guy because he is big and rangy, but can in-line block. Brian St. Pierre SELECTED BY PITTSBURGH , ROUND 5, PICK 28, OVERALL PICK 163 QB | (6-2, 218, 4.8) | BOSTON COLLEGE Notes: Redshirt in 1998. Top backup in '99, when he started for Matt Hasselbeck against Pitt. Also started one game in 2000 and every game the last two years. Completed 24-of-40 passes for 295 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions and carried 24 times for 105 yards in '99. Completed 47-77-543-4-3 and carried 13 for minus-29 yards and one touchdown in 2000. In '01, completed 149-279-2,016-23-10 and rushed 67-217-0. In '02, completed 237-407-2,983-18-17 and rushed 68-274-1. Scouts were monitoring a possible groin pull, aggravated during drills at the Scouting Combine, but did not consider the injury to be serious or long-term. Positives: A tough and durable team leader and a good competitor who has above-average size and decent speed and mobility. Battle tested against good competition. Negatives: Has average arm strength. Lacks some zip on his fastball and is a very erratic passer. Lacks good timing and accuracy down the field. Will force the ball and show poor judgment at times. Did not get any better and may have even regressed in '02. Summary: Needed to really come on as a senior and did not after showing good improvement as a junior. Just an average Big East quarterback at this point, but Boston College quarterbacks generally seem to make it, and some become better pros than college players. Chris Davis SELECTED BY SEATTLE , ROUND 5, PICK 30, OVERALL PICK 165 FB | (5-11, 235, 4.51) | SYRACUSE Notes: Had run under 4.5 on a superfast rubber track and ran 4.51 at the Combine. Broke leg in high school and redshirted at Syracuse as a true freshman in 1998 after tearing his left anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament in late September. Came back in '99, and in four carries from the tailback position gained 31 yards. Moved to fullback in 2000 and started six games with Kyle Johnson hurt. Rushed 26-86 and three touchdowns and had three catches for 21 yards. Played in every game in '01 and carried 12-28-3 and had one catch, which resulted in a three-yard loss. Started nine of 12 games in '02, when he split time with junior FB Thump Belton, carrying 31-85-1 and catching 5-35. Has a 38Н-inch vertical. Positives: Good size, speed and improving hands. Excellent timed speed. Can catch the ball well. Oustanding athleticism for a fullback. Negatives: Lacks experience and size potential. Really not that big for a fullback. Has not been used much as a route runner. Needs to work on his blocking and pass routes. Upper-body strength could use work. Small hands. Summary: A raw, Rob Konrad-type who could evolve on offense and is athletic enough to play special teams. Doug Gabriel SELECTED BY OAKLAND , ROUND 5, PICK 32, OVERALL PICK 167 WR | (6-2, 213, 4.51) | CENTRAL FLORIDA Notes: Originally signed with Miami (Fla.) as a wide receiver but wound up at Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College because of grades. Then turned down a chance to go to Florida State as a defensive back in order to play wide receiver at Central Florida. Played in 10 games in 2001, starting six, and caught 22 passes for 632 yards and nine touchdowns and returned six kickoffs for 163 yards. Averaged a whopping 28.7 yards per catch and was the team's home-run hitter, with more than 40 percent of his receptions going the distance. In '02, Gabriel had a team-best 75 catches for 1,237 yards and 11 touchdowns and returned 31 kickoffs for 632 yards. Positives: A big, smooth, fluid receiver with deceptive speed (seems to get faster as he goes), but not sudden and doesn't possess big, explosive second gear. Is hard to jam because of his size. Can make tough catches and has some run-after-the-catch and return ability. Improved in all areas in '02. Decent return skills. Negatives: More fast than quick and is slow to separate. Up-and-down player who still has too many drops because of lapses in concentration. Tends to round off his routes, lacks real suddenness getting into and out of his breaks and very rarely will drop his hips when getting into his break. Lacks ball security and will fumble. Needs reps. May have an inflated opinion of himself and is a little bit of a hot dog. Needs to grow up and not be so in love with himself. Summary: With better technique, concentration and focus, he could develop into a starting receiver in the NFL, but if he does not improve his focus and concentration, he could end up being a bust. J.R. Tolver SELECTED BY MIAMI , ROUND 5, PICK 34, OVERALL PICK 169 WR | (6-1, 202, 4.68) | SAN DIEGO STATE Notes: Prefers to be called "J.R.," which stands for "Junior." High school quarterback and basketball player. Redshirted in 1998 while making the move to wide receiver. Played in seven games in '99 and started the last two. Started every game in 2000 and '01. Caught nine passes for 101 yards and two TDs in '99; 62-808-1 in 2000; and 63-878-2 in '01. Named All-Mountain West Conference first-team in '02, with 128 catches for 1,785 yards both Mountain West records that rank among the top 10 single-season marks in NCAA history. Started 13 games, averaged 13.9 yards per catch and scored 13 touchdowns. Rushed six times for 50 yards and one touchdown and was 1-of-3 passing for 87 yards. Tolver and teammate Kassim Osgood set an NCAA record for combined catches in a season (236). Positives: Very good player who runs good underneath routes. Has good football intelligence, fine character and intangibles. Has good hands and can adjust to the ball well. Tough. Plays special teams. Can block and will make tough, tough catches. Good size and body control. Reads coverages. Looks the part. Smart and very productive in some games. Has good initial get-off and quickness. Good competitor who will block. Strong and dependable and has been called the most dependable player on the team. Good ball skills and body control. Very consistent. Negatives: Somewhat inconsistent and plays to speed. Not technically sound but achieves. Lacks second gear. Not that quick, fast or explosive. Average into and out of breaks. Much better vs. zone than tight man-on-man coverage, where he has trouble separating. Has to gear down to make sharp cuts and lacks top-end speed. Does not have much playmaking ability after the catch. Summary: Lacks the size and deep speed to be an impact player at the next level. Likely early second-day pick who was the team's most productive player but not the college's best pro prospect at receiver. David Kircus SELECTED BY DETROIT , ROUND 6, PICK 2, OVERALL PICK 175 WR | (6-1, 180, 4.6) | GRAND VALLEY STATE (Mich.) Notes: Caught 27 passes for 535 yards and five touchdowns and returned 14 punts for 131 yards as a second-year freshman in 1999 despite missing two games. Caught 56-967-8 and returned punts 18-219 with one touchdown in 2000. In '01, caught 81-1,682-22 and returned punts 31-359-0. Second-leading scorer in NCAA Division II with 28 touchdowns and 170 points during the regular season. In '02, caught 77-1,341-35 in 14 games (including postseason). Won MVP honors in Hula Bowl and Paradise Bowl postseason all-star games. Positives: Dominated on this level. Makes big plays and comes up big in big games. Plays much faster than timed speed. Nobody on this level can cover him. Can run after the catch and return punts. Negatives: On the thin and narrow side. Lacks strength and timed speed and may have trouble beating the bump. Has not faced many good defensive backs on his level. Summary: Computer numbers don't add up, but he dominated on his level of competition in college and runs right by people. Zuriel Smith SELECTED BY DALLAS , ROUND 6, PICK 13, OVERALL PICK 186 WR | (0-0, 0) | Hampton (Va.) Drew Henson SELECTED BY HOUSTON , ROUND 6, PICK 19, OVERALL PICK 192 QB | (0-0, 0) | MICHIGAN Latarence Dunbar SELECTED BY ATLANTA , ROUND 6, PICK 23, OVERALL PICK 196 WR | (0-0, 0) | TEXAS CHRISTIAN Arnaz Battle SELECTED BY SAN FRANCISCO , ROUND 6, PICK 24, OVERALL PICK 197 WR | (6-0, 217, 4.65) | NOTRE DAME Notes: Backup quarterback in 1998 and '99. Started the first two games at quarterback in 2000 but suffered a broken wrist in the second game of the season vs. Nebraska and was granted an injury redshirt. Moved to wide receiver in '01 but broke his fibula in the second game. Came back to finish the year with five catches for 40 yards. Had 48-702 with five touchdowns as a senior. Had 10-101-0 vs. Pittsburgh, and showed good athleticism and some polish as a receiver at the Senior Bowl. Positives: Has quick, natural hands and good feet. A good all-around athlete who could return kicks. Can run after the catch and is elusive. Works hard and has improved in several areas, including route-running and footwork. Can catch in traffic and displays some attention to detail in his routes. Negatives: Has build of a running back more than a receiver. Still raw in terms of skills as a receiver. Doesn't get into his patterns as quickly as he could and shows an inconsistent burst to separate. Lacks home-run speed. Will round off some routes and needs more experience at the position. Summary: Has the quickness and athleticism to develop into a No. 3 receiver but must work hard at it. Will probably get drafted late the second day for his versatility. Willie Ponder SELECTED BY NEW YORK , ROUND 6, PICK 26, OVERALL PICK 199 WR | (6-0, 205, 4.6) | SOUTHEAST MISSOURI Notes: Caught eight passes for 72 yards as a true freshman at Tulsa in 1998. Attended Coffeyville (Kan.) Junior College in 2000. Came to Southeast Missouri in '01 and caught 70-1,090 and 11 touchdowns, returned 13 kickoffs for 283 yards and won All-Ohio Valley Conference honors. Played 12 games in '02, making 87 catches for 1,453 yards with 15 touchdowns, returning 12 kickoff returns for 257 yards (21.4 avg.), blocking one punt return for a TD and intercepting one pass on defense. Positives: Great size. Clutch, productive No. 1 receiver at that level. Works hard. Good in crowd. Good athletic ability. Good hands. Negatives: Lacks instincts and intelligence. Rounds routes. A tad stiff and very raw. Must learn how to avoid the jam, run routes, block, separate and sell routes. Lacks explosive quickness and is just average into and out of his routes. Just relies on ability against the competition he is facing. Summary: Very productive college receiver who lacks top speed and will need to refine his skills to have a chance at the next level. Brooks Bollinger SELECTED BY NEW YORK , ROUND 6, PICK 27, OVERALL PICK 200 QB | (6-0, 203, 4.8) | WISCONSIN Notes: Top football, baseball and basketball player in high school who was the Gatorade State Player of the Year in 1997, the starting quarterback in football since ninth grade, the point guard in basketball and the shortstop in baseball. Was a 50th-round pick of the Dodgers in the June 2000 baseball draft. Redshirted in '98. Big Ten Freshman of the Year in '99. Started every game in 2000. Missed three games and parts of two others in '01 with a liver contusion suffered in the opener (he was out of Games Two and Three) and groin and hip injuries that cost him another game. Completed 82-of-140 passes for 1,133 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions and ran 109 times for 454 yards and six touchdowns in '99; 110-209-1,479-10-7 and 157-459-6 in 2000; and 91-177-1,257-6-4 and 92-388-6 in '01. Had a 22-7 record as a starter and a 24-15 TD-interception ratio through three years. In '02, completed 119-221-1,595-12-3 and ran 140-384-7 in 12 games. Positives: Very good athlete with quick feet and athletic ability who doesn't make mental mistakes or throw interceptions. Is good to outstanding as a game manager, though the game isn't often put on his shoulders. Can slide his feet and avoid pressure in the pocket. Negatives: Lacks pure passing skills, arm strength and toughness. Drops his elbow and has a three-quarter delivery at times. Is not accurate and lacks timing and touch. More of a slinger without the gun who doesn't square his shoulder. Summary: Might not have the arm strength, size or accuracy to succeed in the NFL. Kliff Kingsbury SELECTED BY NEW ENGLAND , ROUND 6, PICK 28, OVERALL PICK 201 QB | (6-3, 208, 4.88) | TEXAS TECH Notes: Redshirted in 1998. Played in six games and started the finale in '99. Started every game in Tech's new spread offense in 2000 and '01. Completed 25-of-57 passes for 492 yards, four touchdowns and one interception in 1999; 362-585-3,418-21-17 in 2000, when he only weighed 188 pounds by the end of the year; and 365-529-3,502-25-9 in '01. Completed 447-669-4,642-42-12 in '02, when he started every game. Positives: Very productive. Honors student and academic all-conference. Good height and great leader. Top worker. Smart, competitive and dedicated. Makes calls and manages the offense. Tough and durable. Has a three-quarters to overhand release. Short to medium passer. Can find the secondary receiver. OK on the run and has a sense and feel for the rush. Negatives: Lacks great tools, and college offensive system enhanced his stats. Has marginal arm strength and worked mostly out of the shotgun. Uses too much touch at times and lacks accuracy and velocity on the deep ball, which he lobs and hangs. Does not drive the ball. Puts too much air under most of his longer throws, which could make interceptions a major problem at the next level. Gets nervous feet at times. Has small 8-inch hands and a slight and slender build. Will struggle with simplistic things, such as center-QB exchange and regular three- and five-step drops. Summary: Dink-and-dunk passer who excels in a shotgun offense but may struggle with the transition to the next level. Kareem Kelly SELECTED BY NEW ORLEANS , ROUND 6, PICK 30, OVERALL PICK 203 WR | (5-11, 186, 4.45) | USC Notes: High school football and track All-American. Started 12 games in 2002, catching 43-531-4, averaging 12.3 yards per catch and returning 11 punts for 76 yards. Positives: Has tremendous speed and good balance and athletic ability. Can run after the catch and adjust to the ball. Has lots of talent. Quick off the line of scrimmage with speed and quickness. Good hands. Makes tough catches. Can make sharp cuts and big plays. Great speed. Can make a defender miss, adjust to and catch the off-line throw and make the great catch and run. Negatives: Hot and cold, makes a big play and then a bad play. Does not make the tough catch, not physical and has a track mentality. Unreliable. Poor attitude. Lacks toughness and maturity. Spoiled and immature. Does not react well in crowd or give effort to block. Inconsistent catcher with a concentration issue. Makes easy drops. Runs inconsistent routes, gets lazy and rounds off. Questionable mental focus. High maintenance. Likes to complain and always seems to have a problem with something. Not very big. Poor-to-average worker. Catches with his body. Needs to pay much better attention to detail. Summary: Overrated. Has poor character but the ability to compete for a roster spot. Brock Forsey SELECTED BY CHICAGO , ROUND 6, PICK 33, OVERALL PICK 206 RB | (5-11, 200, 4.7) | BOISE STATE Notes: Fifth-year senior who as a redshirt freshman, rushed for 313 yards and two touchdowns, caught seven passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns and returned 13 kicks for 337 yards. Rushed for 197-914-9, caught 23-399-7 and returned 24-517 in 2000. Carried 246-1,207-13 in '01, when he also caught 35-369-3 and returned 17 kickoffs for 362 yards. In '02, including the bowl game, Forsey carried 295-1,611-26 and caught 36-282-6. Positives: Superproductive, all-purpose back who knows where the endzone is. Has fine run vision and skills and is very tough and competitive. Sees the cutback lanes and knows when to hit them. Hits the hole hard and fights for extra yardage. Catches the ball well and returns kickoffs and punts. Has some make-you-miss in the open field. Runs with good body tilt and is always falling forward. Tough goal-line runner who fights not to be denied. Negatives: Lacks great size and speed. Does not have exceptional quickness or a second gear. Gets caught from behind. Played on a team that had very good people around him so he couldn't be keyed upon and generally got good blocking help. Summary: A terrific college player who is a longshot for the NFL because of his lack of quickness and speed for a back his size. However, he still has a chance because of heart, skills and productivity. David Tyree SELECTED BY NEW YORK , ROUND 6, PICK 38, OVERALL PICK 211 WR | (6-0, 198, 4.6) | SYRACUSE Notes: Redshirted in 1998. Played in every game from '99 through '02. Returned one punt for 25 yards and had nine-catch, 229-yard performance vs. Virginia Tech. Positives: Tough contributor on all special teams. Good kick blocker and very physical and aggressive covering kicks. Vocal leader and captain. Has big hands. Good blocker. Negatives: Slow off the line of scrimmage. Lacks initial quickness and a burst. Not a sharp route runner and doesn't run well after the catch. Does not have good concentration and drops passes. Lacks explosiveness and quick-twitch. Doesn't burst out of his breaks or get separation. Not sudden. Below-average running after the catch. Summary: Is not gifted enough to make an NFL roster as a receiver, lacking explosiveness and a burst to separate, but special-teams play could be his ticket. Malaefou Mackenzie SELECTED BY JACKSONVILLE , ROUND 7, PICK 4, OVERALL PICK 218 RB | (5-10, 233, 4.65) | USC Notes: Lived in Samoa until he was 9 years old. Played in nine games and started two in 1997 as a true freshman. Carried 96 times for 332 yards with three touchdowns and caught five passes for 22 yards. Carried 7-28-0 in the '98 opener, then tore his left anterior cruciate ligament and redshirted. Came back in '99 and carried 25-121-3 and caught 5-40 in eight games. Missed four games with a pulled left hamstring. Started twice in 2000 and played a lot on third downs, carrying 41-284-0 and catching 27-249. Missed the start of the '01 season with a sprained knee, returned to Samoa due to a death in the family and returned to USC. Sprained his knee and was given a second redshirt year. MacKenzie had his knee scoped before the start of spring practice '02. Played in 13 games and was the starting tailback for the first three games and starting fullback for the last seven. Rushed 47-174-2 and caught 39-365-7. His seven TD catches were the most-ever by a Trojans running back. Was an honorable-mention All-Pacific-10 selection and played in the Senior Bowl. Positives: Big, thickly built tailback with good size, hands and athletic ability. Shows some burst and elusiveness. Runs good routes. Versatile and quick. Will compete. Good inside runner with vision. Shows likeness to Larry Centers. Catches well and has some run skills. Negatives: Inconsistent blocker. Because of injuries, has never been a full-time starter. Not durable. Tweener who is not elusive and a little tight in the hips. Average blocker who struggles to adjust laterally. Hasn't carried the ball much since '97. Durability is a concern. Summary: May be best-suited as a Centers-type, pass-catching fullback, but is versatile enough to force teams to show interest on the first day. Keenan Howry SELECTED BY MINNESOTA , ROUND 7, PICK 7, OVERALL PICK 221 WR | (5-9, 178, 4.62) | OREGON Notes: Started eight games as an 18-year-old freshman in 1999. Started every game in 2000 and won All-Pacific-10 honors in '01 as a receiver and punt returner despite playing with a separated left shoulder. Caught 29 passes for 452 yards and two touchdowns in 1999; 52-780-5 in 2000; and 49-647-8 in '01. Also returned 36 punts for 282 yards (7.8-yard average) in 2000 and 32-465-2 (14.5) in '01. Started 12-of-13 games in '02, catching 40-784-5 with a long of 84. Averaged 19.6 yards per catch. Carried eight times for 79 yards. Positives: Quick, nifty, shifty, aware and productive punt returner and receiver. Adjusts to the ball quickly. Good athletic ability, agility and elusiveness. More quick than fast. Very tough and has very good football intelligence. Good competitor and warrior. Tough. Maximizes size and talent. Fine returner with receiver skills. Has some make-you-miss qualities. Negatives: Does not have great size or top-end speed. Not very explosive in and out of breaks. Tiny body. Size is a huge concern. Might not be more than a No. 3, slot receiver. Summary: Has all the qualities you look for in a return man and could develop into a solid slot receiver. Josh Brown SELECTED BY SEATTLE , ROUND 7, PICK 8, OVERALL PICK 222 K | (0-0, 0) | NEBRASKA Trent Smith SELECTED BY BALTIMORE , ROUND 7, PICK 9, OVERALL PICK 223 TE | (6-5, 243, 4.75) | OKLAHOMA Notes: Redshirted in 1998. Caught 18 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns in '99; 29-310-3 in 2000; and 61-564-6 in '01, when he was one of three finalists for the John Mackey Award that goes to the nation's top tight end. Started 14-of-14 games in '02, catching 46-396-5 with a long of 28. Has pilot's license in aviation and black belt in tae kwon do. Positives: Looks like a big wide receiver playing tight end. Will take the ball away from smaller defensive backs. Clutch receiver with very good, quick hands. Can pluck and snatch the ball. Does a good job adjusting to the low ball. Gets deep on occasion. Negatives: Had too many drops and fumbles in 2002. Has a narrow base and lacks bulk strength to block in line. Lacks strength and elusiveness after the catch. Average release and separation. Lacks burst and acceleration. Tall and linear. Needs to learn to eat right. Finesse position blocker who is usually split off the line. Not a speed receiver who will run by people, and he lacks suddenness. Struggles vs. the jam and tight man coverage. For his size and build, 40 time is disappointing. Summary: Was a long, linear wide receiver playing tight end until he added weight his senior year. An H-back type of player who is much better blocking on the move and in space than on the line. Taco Wallace SELECTED BY SEATTLE , ROUND 7, PICK 10, OVERALL PICK 224 WR | (0-0, 0) | KANSAS STATE Walter Young SELECTED BY CAROLINA , ROUND 7, PICK 12, OVERALL PICK 226 WR | (6-4, 214, 4.55) | ILLINOIS Notes: High school QB and basketball player who redshirted as a quarterback in 1998. Dabbled at quarterback but spent most of his time at receiver in '99, catching 14 passes for 267 yards and one touchdown. Started seven games at wide receiver in 2000 and caught 27-403-0. Started to feel at home as a wideout in '01, catching 50-890-8 during the regular season and having a monster Sugar Bowl with 6-178-2 against LSU. Played two games with the Illinois basketball team in 2001-02. In '02 football season, caught 56-822-6 with a long reception of 51 yards. Positives: Rare size. Uses huge 10-inch hands to snatch the ball out of the air. Has a huge wingspan with 35-inch arms. Almost always shows good concentration in a crowd and can jump and adjust to a ball in the air and use his 39-inch vertical. Has good body control, but he relies on athleticism more than fluid routes and quickness. Can be a good blocker. Looks the part. Dependable in the clutch. Shows patience running routes. Negatives: Effort as a blocker is inconsistent. Likes to body-catch at times. Limited run-after-the-catch ability and will fumble fighting for yardage because he exposes the ball. Average speed, quickness and elusiveness. More of a possession receiver capable of big plays because of his size and measurables. Can't consistently beat tight coverage. Doesn't play with fire or up to his ability. Drops too many passes. Not a great competitor. Summary: Young is working to get faster and more explosive and greatly improved his stock by running in the mid-4.5's at the Combine. Shows similarities to J.J. Stokes. Andrew Pinnock SELECTED BY SAN DIEGO , ROUND 7, PICK 15, OVERALL PICK 229 RB | (5-10, 265, 4.7) | SOUTH CAROLINA Notes: Top player in Connecticut who may have come to South Carolina because of the Skip Holtz connection. Was not cleared by the NCAA to play until the third game of the 1999 season but went on to rush 73 times for 261 yards and three touchdowns and catch two passes for two yards while starting twice as a true freshman. Shared time with Derek Watson in 2000 and '01 and also played fullback. Carried 110-406-7 and caught 5-37 in 2000; and carried 115-622-12 and caught 5-40 in '01. Played in 12 games and rushed for 124-563-5 and caught 16-106 in '02. Positives: Big, strong, powerful runner who gets to and through the hole quickly and is almost never tackled in the backfield. Has top athletic ability, fine run skills and good to very good feet. Is nifty for his size and very skilled. Can catch and is a very good cut blocker. Very powerful and is effective in goal-line and short-yardage situations. Has good size, is sudden out of his stance and can make the first tackler miss. Can be a load and move the pile when he runs low with his pads down and legs low. Will block to save the quarterback. Negatives: Is a chronic fumbler and struggles in lead blocking, when he is quick to the point of attack and then stops his feet and doesn't finish. Will block but not with much passion. Has had a problem gaining weight. Plays to size, lacks a burst. Loses concentration, focus and fumbles. Is a straight-up runner who loses leg drive in traffic. Lacks natural hands and a big desire to block. Is not a gifted or natural receiver and needs to spend time catching 200 balls per day. One-back type with long speed. Summary: Looks a lot like former North Carolina and Chargers star Natrone Means and wants to be a featured back. However, lacks Means' quickness, great feet, agility and run skills. Talman Gardner SELECTED BY NEW ORLEANS , ROUND 7, PICK 17, OVERALL PICK 231 WR | (6-0, 205, 4.45) | FLORIDA STATE Notes: High school sprinter who ran an unofficial 10.5 seconds in the 100 meters and 21.1 in the 200 meters. Caught seven passes for 123 yards and averaged 21.5 yards on eight kickoff returns in 1999. Caught 12-198 and returned eight kickoffs for 175 yards in 2000. Came into his own in '01, catching 33-649 and 11 TDs. Caught a career-best 37 passes for 619-8 in '02 and returned 10 kickoffs for 218 yards while starting all but one game. Positives: Good size and speed. Makes big plays and scores touchdowns. Generally adjusts to the deep ball well. Strong runner who can break tackles and return kickoffs. Shows a good burst. Explosive and gets separation. Flashes play-making ability. Good jumping ability. Negatives: Not as fluid or sudden as teams would like. Is basically a vertical receiver and not a great route runner. Is not very quick or sudden getting into or out of his breaks. Inconsistent hands and concentration. Does not seem to trust his hands at times and does a lot of body catching. Summary: Could develop into a No. 2 receiver if he can polish his skills and hone his concentration. Possible first-day pick because of his explosiveness and playmaking ability. Gibran Hamdan SELECTED BY WASHINGTON , ROUND 7, PICK 18, OVERALL PICK 232 QB | (6-4, 219, 5.0) | INDIANA Notes: Played football and baseball at Indiana. Redshirted in 1998, but played eight games with the Hoosiers' baseball team. Played only as the team's holder on placement kicks in '99, when he also saw action in 36 games with the baseball team. Played in every game in 2000 and completed 2-of-5 passes for 60 yards and one touchdown. Played in every game in '01 but played only in routes and as a holder. Started 49 games at first base for the baseball team and hit .335 with six home runs and 38 RBIs; was named Academic All-Big Ten. Played in 11 of 12 games in '02 and completed 152-of-293-2,115-9-14. Did not participate in spring baseball because his eligibility had run out. Positives: Big, intelligent and has a capable arm. Capable of making plays, as he showed in a four-TD game vs. Wisconsin. Negatives: Panics under pressure, but he did not have a great offensive line or running game. Inconsistent in terms of accuracy and production. Summary: Best chance to play sports professionally is likely on the baseball field. Spencer Nead SELECTED BY NEW ENGLAND , ROUND 7, PICK 20, OVERALL PICK 234 TE | (6-4, 259, 4.86) | BRIGHAM YOUNG Notes: Married. Spent 1995 at Ricks College (Idaho) after winning all-state honors in basketball and football in high school but didn't play at Ricks that year. Went on a religious mission and returned to Ricks, where he won junior college All-America honors. Came to Brigham Young in 2001 and split time with Doug Jolley, starting six times and catching 22 passes for 266 yards with five touchdowns in 13 games. In '02, Nead took over as the Cougars' top tight end and caught 40-449-1. Positives: Has good size and can become a blocker if he wants to. Uses his size well as a receiver and has very good hands. Can adjust to the ball and make the tough catches. Runs hard after the catch and will run over some smaller defensive backs. Reads coverage well and finds the soft spots to sit down in the zone. Plays quicker than timed speed. Negatives: Lacks speed and a second gear as a receiver. Is not quick into and out of his breaks. Lack of explosiveness evidenced by 28Н-inch vertical and 81-foot broad jump (both were Combine lows among TE position). Better versus zone coverage and struggles to separate against man-on-man. Will do a lot of pushing off the linebacker, which could get him flagged in the NFL. Is not much of a blocker at this point. Will drop some passes he should be catching. Will be a 25-year-old rookie. Summary: Needs to become a better blocker and catch just about everything if he wants to play on the next level. Ahmaad Galloway SELECTED BY DENVER , ROUND 7, PICK 21, OVERALL PICK 235 RB | (5-11, 223, 4.7) | ALABAMA Notes: Fifth-year player who had played in every game since 1999 until he tore his left anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in the fourth game of the 2002 season against Southern Mississippi. Before the injury, he carried 58 times for 281 yards and four touchdowns. Team's top rusher in 2000 and '01. Saw limited action in 1999, when he carried 7-33-0. Started seven times in 2000, rushing 137-659-7 and catching four passes for 48 yards. Started all but one game in '01, when he carried 174-881-6 and caught 3-20. Academic All-Southeastern Conference in '01. Positives: Prior to the injury, he was a tough, durable, north-south power runner who ran with his pads low and level and broke tackles. Had good lean and balance and finished his runs. Much of his yardage comes after initial contact. Negatives: Will be coming off a serious knee injury and was not very fast to begin with. Lacks creativity, speed, real quickness and make-you-miss as a runner. A chain mover, not a big-play runner. Does not block well enough to project to fullback. Summary: Was a possible later-round pick before he tore up his knee, and now he will probably be a free agent unless he wows with his recovery. Brandon Drumm SELECTED BY DETROIT , ROUND 7, PICK 22, OVERALL PICK 236 FB | (6-1, 233, 4.72) | COLORADO Notes: Redshirted in 1998. Started two of nine games in '99, carrying twice for eight yards and catching four passes for 42 yards. Played in every game in 2000 but touched the ball only four times. Started every game in '01, carrying 7-19 and catching 14-102. Had his right knee scoped in January and had hernia surgery in February, but came back to start in '02. Carried 11-128 and four touchdowns and caught 18-145. Positives: Unselfish, complementary back who will do all the dirty work. Very tough and hardnosed blocker who tries to be physical despite his lack of great size. Good receiver who may not look pretty but hangs onto the ball. Tough inside runner with some pick and vision. Negatives: Lacks natural size as a true fullback. Is not a gifted runner, is a little stiff and struggles to adjust as a blocker. Because he goes 110 percent at all times and has had injury problems in the past, durability and lo
